The Centers for Families and Children is building a comprehensive behavioral health system of care, serving 20,000+ individuals annually across 11 locations in Greater Cleveland. We provide judgment-free care across the full continuum—from prevention and early intervention to crisis response and inpatient treatment coming later in 2026.

The Opportunity

We're seeking an exceptional Chief Medical Officer to provide strategic medical leadership and clinical direction as a key member of our executive team. Reporting to the President & CEO, you'll drive medical excellence, lead our medical and nursing teams, and shape the future of integrated behavioral health care.

What You'll Do

Lead Medical Strategy & Clinical Excellence

  • Develop and implement medical strategies aligned with our 2035 vision for comprehensive behavioral health care
  • Advance integrated care approaches that address physical, mental, and behavioral health needs
  • Drive evidence-based practices and trauma-informed, person-centered care delivery
  • Champion clinical quality improvement initiatives with measurable outcomes

Oversee Medical Operations & Teams

  • Provide leadership to medical teams and nursing operations across our continuum of care
  • Establish clinical productivity standards, quality metrics, and utilization management processes
  • Ensure regulatory compliance, accreditation standards, and patient safety across all service lines
  • Leverage data and EHR systems to drive clinical decision-making

Partner with Executive Leadership

  • Collaborate closely with the Chief Program Officer, CFO, and COO to integrate medical services across operations
  • Participate in organizational strategy, board presentations, and enterprise-wide decision-making
  • Support expansion initiatives including continuum enhancements, mergers/acquisitions, and strategic partnerships
  • Develop sustainable financial models for medical services

Build & Develop Clinical Workforce

  • Recruit, mentor, and retain high-performing medical and nursing professionals
  • Foster a culture of clinical excellence, innovation, accountability, and trauma-informed leadership
  • Oversee credentialing, privileging, and continuing medical education programs
  • Champion clinician well-being, engagement, and retention

Represent & Advocate

  • Serve as a clinical thought leader for behavioral health integration and access
  • Build relationships with healthcare systems, community partners, and regulatory bodies
  • Strengthen strategic alliances with medical partners, payers, and community health organizations
What You Bring

Required Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree from accredited medical school
  • Board certification in Psychiatry, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or related specialty
  • Current, unrestricted Ohio medical license (or ability to obtain) and DEA registration
  • 10-15 years of progressive medical leadership experience
  • 5-7 years in senior executive or medical director roles
  • Proven track record leading medical teams in behavioral health, integrated care, or health system settings
  • Experience overseeing nursing operations and building interdisciplinary care teams

Preferred Experience

  • Master's in Public Health, Healthcare Administration, or Business Administration
  • Leadership in non-profit healthcare organizations
  • Additional certifications in addiction medicine or related specialties
  • Value-based care and quality incentive program experience
