Essential Functions And Primary Duties
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight of all payroll operations supporting 9,500+ team members across multiple entities
- Lead end-to-end payroll enterprise operations, ensuring accuracy, speed and compliance across all payroll cycles
- Build, lead and develop a high-performing Corporate Payroll Team, setting clear expectations and accountability
- Instill a customer-service mindset across the payroll team, where team members understand the impact of payroll on the team member experience
- Lead efforts to increase self service, reduce manual work and improve data quality
- Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for the payroll function
- Serve as escalation point for complex matters, identify root causes and opportunities for improvement
- Maintain comprehensive operational knowledge of payroll processes and systems
- Partner closely with Finance, Benefits, Leave Administration, HR Operations and IT to ensure seamless, integrated payroll processes; align payroll operations with talent strategy, business objectives, financial controls and support the team member experience
- Own and maintain payroll-related auditing controls including design, documentation, testing, readiness, segregation of duties and remediation of deficiencies
- Balance operational excellence with strategic vision, anticipating the impact of growth, M&A and regulatory change on the business
- Serve as payroll accounting SME ensuring accurate general ledger activity, accruals, reconciliations, labor allocations and payroll cash management
- Partner with Corporate Accounting and FP&A to support month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes
- Oversee federal, state and local payroll tax compliance and ensure timely, accurate filings
- Monitor regulatory changes and ensure compliance with wage and hour laws, garnishments and related requirements
- Oversee payroll system (UKG) governance and integrations with Oracle HCM, Oracle ERP and various timekeeping systems
- Additional responsibilities as assigned
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
- 10+ years of progressive payroll experience in a complex, multi-entity environment including people leadership
- Strong knowledge of payroll accounting, internal controls and payroll tax compliance
- Certified Payroll Professional designation (CPP)
- Ability to work on multiple simultaneous projects and maintain flexibility and control in the management of change while ensuring pay runs are processed within set time frames
- Able to maintain confidential information
- Bachelor's degree required
- Graduate or specialty degree preferred
- 8 years experience
- 6 years supervisory experience (if applicable)
- Ability to manage deadlines, work on multiple assignments and prioritize each assignment as necessary
- Proficient use of applicable technology
- Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing throughout all levels of organization, both internally and externally
