Overview
We're looking for a Director, Fund Taxation to join our US Leadership Team and be responsible for leading all aspects of the Tax department’s day to day client facing activity, ensuring this is aligned to, and promotes the business’ strategy and culture.
You will lead a team of 9 plus dedicated tax professionals in the US region, leading on the delivery of a variety of tax compliance matters for circa 125 fund clients and total of ~450 entities comprised largely of venture capital, private equity and real estate funds in the US. You will work closely with direct reports and managers to look after the day to day running of the team, focusing on the development, maintenance and growth of the team and client base ensuring high levels of client service at all times.
You will be recognized as a leading mixed tax advisor promoting the company and our business objectives whilst driving morale by providing support and guidance (technical and otherwise) to their team.
As a member of the Leadership Team, regular cross collaboration and involvement in discussing firm wide matters and company initiatives will be key, expressing own opinion and ideas and taking ownership of projects to implement change.
Key Accountabilities Client- Be a primary contact and have overall responsibility for the client relationships associated with their team ensuring client services are exemplary, the relationship is commercial, complex matters and issues are dealt with appropriately, providing solutions and responding in an advisory manner.
- Identify and acted upon, opportunities to do more for existing clients and to develop relationships with new clients and their advisors.
- Deliver best in class service to clients, liaising directly with clients and acting as the relationship lead on both a firm wide and service line level.
- Lead the team in delivery of compliance and advisory services in relation to fund tax, including entities throughout the fund structure.
- Be involved in generating new business opportunities.
- Act with a commercial awareness that drives efficiencies through their team and processes, ensuring high utilisation of resources, intermediary relationships and profitability.
- Grow the team, both in terms of developing opportunities from existing clients around tax compliance, advisory services and specific transactions, but also by identifying and generating new business opportunities to help growth the department’s client portfolio.
- Work with the Managing Directors to create a department budget each year, regularly monitoring performance and focusing on billings, cost management and delivering an efficient client service.
- Lead a team of 9 plus tax professionals, demonstrating effective communication and an ability to prioritise effectively to ensure objectives and initiatives are delivered against deadlines.
- Provide feedback to their immediate direct reports and input on the team’s performance in order to grow and develop a highly focused, productive, and purpose-driven team.
- Ensure the team is adequately trained in all matters relating to our tax areas of focus and regularly updated with changes to tax and regulations that impact their work.
- Drive appropriate behaviour and efficiencies to ensure timely and accurate delivery of agreed business targets within a suitable quality control environment.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulation and client service level agreements.
- Keep up to date with US tax law changes and best in class processes and deliver updates to the wider business. The Director, Fund Taxation will be responsible for signing and filing of accurate US tax returns, and must maintain a PTIN.
- Identify and implement standards and process enhancements to existing departmental compliance routines and control systems , researching and implementing new initiatives for efficiency purposes and to improve service quality.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Taxation, or related field (Master’s degree or JD/LLM in Taxation is a plus).
