The opportunity

Private Tax is a growing practice within EY, focused on serving privately held companies and their owners and families. These clients range from family‑owned businesses to private equity‑owned companies, offering high‑growth, technically demanding tax planning and compliance projects. You’ll be part of a growing global team, acting as a key point of contact for a wide range of clients and colleagues, with opportunities for cross‑border and cross‑functional teaming.

Key Responsibilities

Depending on your unique skills and ambitions, you could manage technical planning and advising for private entities (C‑Corp, S‑Corp, Partnerships) and high‑profile individuals. You’ll coach and develop a highly trained team, handle quality‑focused activities, and collaborate with partners to develop account strategies and deliver additional services to clients.

Skills and Attributes for Success
  • Researching tax issues to develop effective tax planning strategies
  • Lead teams on all types of tax work, from entity to individual
  • Translate complex data from a range of sources into client‑ready insights and deliverables
  • Build long‑term relationships with clients, understanding their unique needs
  • Communicate complex tax issues to non‑tax professionals and clients
  • Maintain reputation by continuously updating and sharing technical knowledge
  • Supervise high‑performing teams and share best practices
  • Identify and react to risks and opportunities to improve services and processes
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, with significant tax/business/financial planning experience and CPA certification or membership in The Bar
  • Minimum of 8 years of work experience in professional services or professional tax organization
  • Thorough understanding of estate and wealth planning; experience with federal and state personal and trust income tax
  • Experience with flow‑through entities (S‑Corps, Partnerships, LLCs)
  • Experience with C‑Corps, including income tax provisions and consolidated federal and state tax returns
  • Excellent collaboration and negotiation skills, confidence to challenge senior colleagues and stakeholders
  • Understanding of automated tax processing systems and laws within your technical specialty
  • Experience managing budgets and projects
  • Willingness to travel as needed and ability to work in a balanced hybrid environment
Ideally, you’ll also have
  • Proven record in tax planning for owners and their families
  • Proven record in a professional services environment
  • Experience coaching and mentoring junior colleagues
  • Executive presence and business development skills
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to adapt work style to collaborate with internal and client teams
What We Look For

We’re interested in tax professionals with a genuine interest in providing outstanding services to some of the world’s most influential people, including C‑Suite executives and owners/families.

What We Offer You
  • A comprehensive compensation and benefits package, including performance‑based rewards, medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and paid time off options. Base salary ranges: $132,100–$301,600 (US) and $158,500–$342,700 (NYC Metro, Washington State, California excluding Sacramento).
  • A team‑led and leader‑enabled hybrid model with expectations of in‑person client service 40‑60% of the time per engagement, project, or year.
  • Flexible vacation policy allowing personalized time off, with additional holidays, breaks, and leaves of absence to support well‑being.
