Electrical Engineer – Plant Engineering
Purpose
Plant Engineering is responsible for implementing capital projects and providing engineering support for manufacturing operations within the Consumable and Machine divisions. The Electrical Engineer plays a critical role in designing, developing, and supporting industrial electrical systems used in the manufacturing of welding machines and consumables. This role ensures production equipment meets organizational objectives related to safety, health, productivity, quality, and continuous improvement.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate in a team environment to design, develop, and support industrial electrical systems for both new and existing equipment.
- Engineer solutions to improve equipment reliability, safety, ergonomics, and compliance with ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and other EHS initiatives.
- Provide technical support to Production, Maintenance, and IT teams to reduce downtime and enhance system performance.
- Develop, design, modify, and maintain PLC, VFD, and HMI programs using multiple automation platforms, including Rockwell, Siemens, and Beijer.
- Update and maintain National Instruments LabVIEW code for testing equipment and applications.
- Interface with engineering, manufacturing, maintenance, IT, MES, and production teams to support facility and capital projects.
- Apply NEC and related electrical code knowledge to plan industrial equipment installations and collaborate with electricians to maintain accurate documentation.
- Develop capital cost estimates, project timelines, and review vendor quotations for capital equipment.
- Lead projects or key project phases, solve complex technical problems, and serve as a technical resource for less experienced engineers.
- Manage external engineering and construction contractors, ensuring all safety, environmental, health, and compliance requirements are met.
- Integrate manufacturing equipment into data collection systems and design appropriate network topologies.
- Support network backups, device patch management, and control system asset inventories.
- Compile and analyze data from connected devices for organizational use and help establish standards for control system hardware and software.
- Identify and take on additional responsibilities that support continuous improvement initiatives and long-term organizational goals.
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience.
- Experience using AutoCAD Electrical or similar electrical CAD software.
- Hands-on experience with PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and industrial test equipment, including Rockwell Automation, Siemens platforms, and National Instruments LabVIEW.
- Working knowledge of NFPA 70 (NEC), 70E, 79, and other applicable electrical and safety codes.
- Basic knowledge of industrial networking concepts and SQL databases.
