The Site EHS Specialist will lead Current Chemicals’ manufacturing facility toward best-in-class Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) performance. This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on execution to ensure compliance, promote a proactive safety culture, and drive continuous improvement across all EHS functions. The specialist will collaborate with plant leadership and all functional teams to build a culture of accountability, compliance, and engagement in environmental and safety excellence.
EnvironmentalCompliance and Oversight
- Conduct regular EHS inspections, identify and resolve issues, and ensure corrective actions are completed. Enter and track all findings through the Power Suite audit tracking system.
- Manage compliance programs covering SPCC, hazardous waste, landfill, wastewater, stormwater, and air permitting.
- Conduct required environmental training for all facility employees and contractors, including hazardous waste, stormwater, air, and SPCC programs; assist with health and safety (H&S) training as needed.
- Collect, analyze, and manage all required environmental samples (wastewater, stormwater, hazardous waste, etc.).
- Oversee preparation of shipping papers and documentation for waste, scrap, and hazardous materials.
- Operate and supervise the Wastewater Treatment Facility and Chemical Process Control Laboratory, ensuring discharges consistently maintain at least 50% below permitted limits.
- Maintain accurate records and prepare required reports for regulatory agencies and internal stakeholders.
- Ensure full compliance with regulatory and company requirements related to air quality, hazardous waste, chemical storage, stormwater, industrial hygiene, ergonomics, and employee health and safety training.
- Partner with manufacturing operations to reduce accidents and injuries and promote a proactive safety culture.
- Lead safety committees, develop preventative programs, and drive employee engagement in safety initiatives.
- Apply ergonomic and human factor principles to improve workstation design and reduce risk of injury.
- Lead EHS Management of Change (MOC) processes for new equipment, processes, and materials.
- Serve as the primary site contact for local, state, and federal agency interactions, including inspections and reporting.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with regulatory agencies and internal corporate EHS teams.
- Ensure employee EHS concerns are addressed promptly and effectively.
- Lead or support EHS self-assessments, risk reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Occupational Safety & Health, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience leading environmental and safety compliance programs in a manufacturing environment.
- Must hold, or be able to obtain within one year of hire, a Physical/Chemical Wastewater Operator Certification.
- Proven track record of EHS leadership in a cross-functional manufacturing setting.
- Strong understanding of EHS regulations and Current Chemicals’ environmental and safety standards.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Power Suite, Maximo, and related EHS software platforms.
- Demonstrated Lean manufacturing mindset and commitment to continuous improvement.
- Formal health and safety or environmental certification.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, and team collaboration skills.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to translate long-term vision into actionable goals.
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds, climb ladders and stairs, and operate mobile equipment.
- Must hold a valid motor vehicle license.
- Ability to perform technical and chemical analyses using drawings, schematics, statistics, and laboratory tools.
- Some travel may be required.
The position has a compensation package inclusive of base, bonus (if eligible), benefits, 401k contribution, time off, recognition awards and more. This salary range is $75,000-$90,000.
