About the RoleStepstone Academy, affiliated with Ohio Guidestone, is seeking a full‑time Intervention Specialist to support our classrooms. The ideal candidate is passionate about students’ learning, driven to transform urban and special‑needs education, and collaborates closely with teachers and families to meet student needs.
Essential Functions Communication & Relationship Development- Communicate effectively and respectfully with children, parents/guardians, colleagues, and community contacts.
- Communicate regularly with parents and professional staff regarding students’ educational, social, and personal needs.
- Schedule time to become familiar with families through home visits, parent/guardian meetings, and family engagement.
- Demonstrate compassion and the ability to connect with students and families.
- Show cultural competency and relate to individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Advocate for and provide emotional support to children and families facing poverty, social problems, dysfunctional families, violence, or other stressors.
- Develop and implement an Individualized Educational Program for each child, complementing their strengths and needs as defined through evaluation and IEP process.
- Work cooperatively with regular classroom teachers, interpreting abilities and disabilities, assisting in intervention strategies, modifying general‑education curriculum, and supporting students with regular class assignments.
- Assist special‑education students in assessing their abilities and establishing educational and occupational goals aligned with those abilities.
- Design and implement lessons and activities that help students meet and exceed academic standards.
- Engage students and extend thinking through dynamic lessons.
- Use data to inform instruction and assess student progress.
- Implement curriculum with real‑world context.
- Participate as a member of the Student Support Team as directed by the building principal.
- Create a positive, structured atmosphere that reflects the Stepstone Academy mission.
- Conduct daily instruction, student assessment, and portfolio development.
- Set, communicate, and maintain high expectations and a deep responsibility for each student’s progress, refusing to accept failure.
- Manage student conduct with consistent expectations and engaging content.
- Respond appropriately, maintaining composure and professional demeanor at all times.
- Commit to the Stepstone Academy vision, mission, and culture.
- Collaborate with parents and school support services to align outcomes with the mission and culture.
- Share ideas and responsibilities with colleagues for collective benefit.
