Overview

Saint Ignatius High School, a Jesuit college-preparatory school for boys in Cleveland, Ohio, seeks a full-time Physics and/or Chemistry teacher beginning in the  school year. The position includes planning for and teaching Physics and/or Chemistry and leadership of one student advisory. Depending on experience, the candidate may teach other science courses. The preferred candidate will have high school science teaching experience and participate in the extracurricular and faith formation life of the school.

The candidate should expect ongoing professional development opportunities with access to an annual professional development allowance.

Primary Areas of Responsibility
  • Plan for and teach a full load of science courses in Chemistry and/or Physics.
  • Guide high-impact, college-preparatory learning activities that align with school standards and mission.
  • Create and maintain a classroom with fair and consistent standards in all areas, including content and assessments, while fostering interpersonal relationships and positive student behavior.
  • Serve as an advisor to a group of students.
  • Participate in extracurricular life of the school, through activities such as Science Olympiad, First Robotics, or another activity of choice.
  • Participate in the mission life of the school by attending student retreats, leading prayer experiences or mission trips, and participating in service or justice experiences.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Physics, or Integrated Science; experience teaching in a high school classroom.
  • Familiarity with college-prep Catholic, Jesuit education is a plus.
  • Current Ohio teaching license in AYA Integrated Science or eligibility to obtain.

Saint Ignatius High School opened on September 6, 1886, and is a Jesuit college-preparatory school. The school enrolls more than 1,400 students from 96 cities in a nine-county region. The curriculum offers 21 Advanced Placement (AP) and 32 honors courses. In September 2009, the school was designated a Blue Ribbon school by the U.S. Department of Education. The school emphasizes Christian values under the motto “Men for Others” and the development of faith in the service of justice.
