2025-26 special education teacher – intervention specialist
breakthrough public schools (bps) is seeking an intervention specialist - special education teacher for the 2025-26 school year. - support the school's mission, philosophies, values, goals, and policies toward students, parents/guardians, and coworkers.
- support students through all content areas and abilities.
- design and effectively deliver developmentally appropriate curriculum and instruction which reflects observations and goals of individual children.
- establish a classroom culture of high expectations that includes college preparation for all students.
- work with faculty and school leadership to frequently examine student data for ongoing refinement of instruction and assessment.
- share best practices with other teachers and collaborate with them to improve instructional and assessment practices.
- facilitate regular parent/guardian communications and conferences to discuss student progress.
- collaborate with compliance managers on iep development and process.
- keep the classroom environment organized, attractive and safe.
- interact frequently and respectfully with students.
- provide targeted small group instruction to students throughout the day.
- provide direct service to students to help them achieve their iep goals.
- work collaboratively with grade‑level teams across content areas.
- assist teachers with differentiation in the classroom.
- collaborate as part of the student intervention referral team.
- support with assessment of students as a proctor and monitor of examinations, including the administration of testing accommodations.
- provide a range of instructional, management, and assessment strategies to meet the needs of exceptional learners.
- manage a caseload of students with ieps: progress monitor iep goals and services and respond to the data.
- facilitate testing accommodations.
- assist with non‑instructional supervision of students, such as arrival/dismissal, hallway monitoring, substitute teaching, lunch and playground duty, or supervision of extracurricular activities.
- keep accurate and organized records of student information.
- actively engage in identity work and necessary conversations in order to dismantle white supremacy culture.
- bachelor’s degree required in special education or related field.
- 2 years of teaching experience preferred.
- experience in urban setting strongly preferred.
- valid ohio special education license or in the process of obtaining a valid ohio special education license.
- passionate about urban education and working in communities that have historically been underserved and under‑resourced.
- experience providing targeted and individualized instruction to students with special needs.
- exceptional level of patience and focus to overcome challenges, and achieve results.
- exceptional communication skills: shine in front of the classroom and through written and verbal communication.
- detail‑oriented, and highly organized.
- committed to thoughtfully engaging in identity work necessary to take a culturally responsive approach to pedagogy and relationship‑building with students and colleagues.
- uses data to drive instruction.
- receptive to feedback and desire to grow professionally.
- has the work ethic and desire to go above and beyond.
