ELS Instructor (ESL Temporary Associate Instructor)

Job SummaryResponsible for planning, teaching, evaluating assigned courses in accordance with the ELS curriculum, with assistance from the AD, Instructional Specialists, and Senior Instructors; maintain student records, fulfill administrative duties, and participate in professional development activities.
Essential Job Functions- Teach SSP (Structure/Speaking Practice), Vocabulary Enrichment, Reading/Writing, LTC (Language Technology Center), and/or Skills Enhancement Classes (SECs) as assigned.
- Prepare lesson plans, exercises, and tests.
- Test, evaluate, and counsel students regarding classroom performance.
- Maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Coordinate instruction, attendance records and evaluation with other teachers.
- Know and adhere to Center and Company policy and procedures, and communicate local policy to Associate Instructors.
- Complete administrative paperwork as required or requested.
- Maintain performance and attendance records.
- Maintain Center resource materials and files.
- Observe other teachers, as suggested by the AD, for professional development and be observed in all program facets.
- Participate in administrative meetings and professional development activities.
- Participate in employee evaluation process (classroom observations, follow-up discussions, performance appraisal).
- Provide Associate Instructors with assistance.
- Develop and/or refine teaching materials at the local level.
- Participate in activities during the Instructor's scheduled class hours and disseminate information about after‑class activities when requested.
- Contribute to the maintenance of neat classrooms, staff workroom and staff lounge.
- Substitute in emergency situations for less than a full day when no reasonable alternatives are available to the AD.
$20–$26 per instructional unit based on education, credentials and experience.
Education Requirements• Bachelor’s degree or higher in English or related field.
Preferred Qualifications- Certificate or better in CELTA or related field.
- Certificate or better in TESOL or related field.
- Master’s degree or better in Applied Linguistics or related field.
- Master’s degree or better in TESOL or related field.
Minimum of 6 months of ESL teaching experience for candidates without an MA in TESOL or CELTA.
