breakthrough public schools (bps) is seeking a multi-intensive autism center intervention specialist for the 2024-25 school year. Breakthrough public schools serves more than 3,000 students across 10 tuition-free, k-8 schools and aims to build equitable, anti-racist environments where scholars and adults can grow and thrive.
essential functions- provide academic and behavioral programming to students in two multi-intensive autism centers throughout the school day and oversee the integrity of programming and all service activities for assigned students.
- participate in educational team meetings, assist in determining iep goals, and collaborate on developing behavior intervention plans (bip) as needed.
- lead a team of multiple rbt/bts in day-to-day activities.
- collaborate with the compliance manager on iep development and process; iep writing and compliance are primary responsibilities of the compliance manager, not the intervention specialist.
- when no vacancies exist, support the compliance team with data collection and iep development.
- design and deliver developmentally appropriate curriculum and instruction reflecting observed goals for individual students.
- establish a classroom culture of high expectations and include college preparation where appropriate.
- work with faculty and school leadership to regularly examine student data to refine instruction and assessment.
- share best practices with other teachers and collaborate to improve instructional and assessment practices.
- facilitate regular parent/guardian communications and conferences to discuss student progress.
- collaborate with rbts/bts to implement strong behavioral programming and support with assessment of students as a test proctor, including testing accommodations.
- provide targeted small group and individual instruction to help students achieve iep goals and manage a caseload of students with ieps for progress monitoring.
- assist with non-instructional supervision of students (arrival/dismissal, hallway monitoring, lunch and playground duties, substitute teaching, extracurricular activities supervision).
- maintain accurate and organized records of student information and ensure a safe, organized classroom environment.
- utilize a range of instructional, management, and assessment strategies to meet the needs of exceptional learners and apply data to drive instruction.
- engage in identity work to dismantle white supremacy culture where applicable.
- bachelor’s degree required.
- 2 years of teaching experience preferred; experience in urban settings strongly preferred.
- valid ohio special education license or in the process of obtaining one; moderate to intensive licensure preferred.
- passionate about urban education and working in historically underserved communities.
- experience providing targeted and individualized instruction to students with special needs.
- strong patience, focus, and commitment to culturally responsive pedagogy and relationship-building.
- excellent communication skills, both in classroom settings and in writing.
- detail-oriented, highly organized, and data-driven.
- receptive to feedback and committed to professional growth.
- demonstrates work ethic and willingness to go above and beyond.
