Position: Service Ambassador I - Protective Services

Service Ambassador I

Location: Akron City Campus, Akron, OH

Employment type: Part-time, 15 hours weekly (Saturday & Sunday 8am-4pm)

Summary: Serves as a first point of contact for employees, vendors, and patrons at hospital entrances. Creates a positive first impression for patients, families and visitors when they enter key access points to any Summa hospital. Ensures that those entering the building are permitted to enter to help ensure the health and safety of those in the facility. Efficiently provides direct assistance to patients, families and/or visitors ranging from confirmation of scheduled appointments, pre‑registration status, testing/department locations, etc.

Assists in ensuring compliance with local and federal laws governing access to our facility and employee, patient and visitor safety.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Formal

    Education Required:

    High School diploma or equivalent
  • Experience & Training

    Required:

    One (1) year experience in direct customer service role
  • Must meet and exceed Summa Health System's Service Excellence Standards
  • Ability to demonstrate basic computer skills and use various computer applications
  • Population Specific

    Competency:

    Effectively interact with patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self‑respect and dignity
  • Active listening skills with empathy and professionalism
  • Accurate knowledge of hospital layout and new building construction
  • Effective communication skills with supervisors, co‑workers, visitors, etc.
  • Excellent customer service & problem resolution; de‑escalate angry visitors/patients
  • Ability to work well under pressure; quickly analyze situations and react appropriately
  • Excellent attendance record; good judgement and behavior
  • Professional relationship maintenance with employees, vendors, and patrons
  • Basic phone and computer skills (email, texting, etc.)
  • Ability to work alone and in a team; minimal supervision
  • Learn navigation through the facility
  • Level of Physical Demands:
    Sedentary; can exert up to ten pounds of force occasionally

Salary Range: $16.60/hr - $19.92/hr (base salary exclusive of bonuses or differentials)
