Business Development Manager – Hybrid

Tucker Ellis LLP is seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to join the firm in any one of the Tucker Ellis office locations. This role offers a hybrid schedule tied to the selected office, combining in-office collaboration with flexible remote days, and will support attorneys and practice groups in developing and executing strategic business development and client growth initiatives.

Position Summary

The Business Development Manager partners closely with attorneys across the firm to advance the growth of practice and industry groups. Working collaboratively with another Business Development Manager and the broader Marketing & Business Development team, this role supports a coordinated, firmwide approach to client development, brand visibility, and revenue growth.
This position is ideal for a strategic, hands‑on marketing professional who excels at both big‑picture planning and detailed execution. Responsibilities range from developing compelling pitches and proposals to identifying and advancing client growth opportunities. The role requires frequent attorney interaction, strong interpersonal and communication skills, sound judgment, creativity, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.

Essential Functions
  • Manage the full lifecycle of pitches and RFP responses, coordinating with attorneys and business development leadership to develop strategy, assemble and draft content, organize materials, and deliver high quality, ontime submissions.
  • Partner with attorneys to plan, prepare for, and participate in both in‑person and virtual business development meetings and client presentations, working closely with the broader Marketing & Business Development team.
  • Oversee core business development processes and systems—including experience databases, client relationship‑management platforms, and sales pipelines—supported operationally by the firm’s marketing and business development teams.
  • Manage and take a leading role in directory and awards submissions (including Chambers USA, Legal 500, and Law
360), working in close partnership with the marketing team and attorneys.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Professional Development to design and deliver internal business development programming for attorneys.
  • Facilitate business development planning for practice groups and individual attorneys, including attending relevant practice group meetings and collaborating with marketing and business development colleagues to ensure consistent strategy and execution.
  • Monitor market, industry, and competitor activity and provide insights and recommendations to firm leadership and Practice Group Leaders.
  • Support cross‑selling initiatives by developing a deep understanding of attorney practices, firm capabilities, and client needs across offices and practice areas.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of firm-sponsored business development events, including webinars, client trainings, networking receptions, and
  • industry conferences. Support post‑event follow‑up, tracking, and ROI analysis, with logistical assistance from the Marketing & Business Development team.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business administration, communications, or a related field required.
Minimum of 4‑7 years of progressive experience in business development or marketing, preferably within a professional services environment (legal, accounting, financial services).
  • Demonstrated experience in business development strategy, pitch and proposal development, business planning, goal tracking, and sales pipeline management.
  • Working knowledge of client relationship management (CRM) systems and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Exceptional client service orientation, with the professionalism to effectively support both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, organizational ability, and attention to detail.
