Job Description
The STS GES Senior Associate is responsible for developing, recommending, and implementing efficient and effective methods to maximize client benefits, particularly by decreasing clients’ current and future taxes. The Senior Associate is also responsible for executing tasks related to taxation of equity compensation, deferred compensation, and individual and corporate income taxes.
Job SummaryEssential responsibilities include research, tax compliance, compensation and benefits consulting, strategy development, supervisory duties, and related tasks to support clients’ retirement plan administration and tax optimization.
Job Duties Research- Identify situations requiring research, outline issues and appropriate sources.
- Analyze researched facts and sources.
- Compose detailed reports of research findings.
- Research and assist with compensation planning and benchmarking for executive compensation models.
- Ensure client compliance with applicable authorities and identify options to minimize compensation‑related tax and reporting burdens.
- Obtain required client information.
- Document and organize work product for senior Comp & Ben review.
- Review SEC filings, survey data, issue briefs, and best‑practice guidelines for client compensation strategy.
- Monitor regulatory actions and advise clients on compliance strategies.
- Prepare studies of market practices and regulatory activities to identify alternative courses of action for clients.
- Develop understanding of client business objectives related to compensation strategies.
- Supervise daily workload and review work of Comp & Ben Associates and Interns.
- Ensure Associates and Interns receive training on relevant software.
- Assist in their professional development and provide performance feedback.
- Other duties as required.
- Bachelor’s degree required; focus in Business, Accounting, or Human Resources preferred.
- Master’s degree preferred.
Skills and Abilities
- Two or more years of prior work experience in compensation and/or strategic consulting preferred.
- Certified Compensation Professional, CPA, or other relevant certification preferred.
- Proficiency in statistical software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
- High proficiency in English, including technical writing.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical and research skills.
- Solid organizational skills and ability to meet project deadlines.
- Ability to multi‑task and work independently or in a team.
- Capability to manage a team of professionals and delegate assignments.
- Strong relationship‑building skills with internal and client personnel.
- Moderate knowledge of legislative processes regarding tax policy.
- National: $73,500 – $131,250
- Maryland: $73,500 – $131,250
- NYC/Long Island/Westchester: $73,500 – $131,250
- Washington DC: $73,500 – $131,250
