Global Employer Services – Expatriate Tax Experienced Manager
Join BDO USA in a role that combines expatriate tax expertise with business development. The STS Expatriate Services Experienced Manager works with clients on international assignment structuring, tax compliance, and client relationship management.
Job Duties- Conduct arrival and departure tax meetings for expatriates and inpatriates.
- Manage retention of long‑term client relationships.
- Supervise client and service delivery expectations for global employees and individual engagements.
- Participate in the management of client fee arrangements.
- Review and sign U.S. individual income tax returns for inbound and outbound international assignees.
- Examine and approve international assignment cost projection calculations, compensation balance sheets, assignment agreements, and equalizations.
- Act as primary contact for assigned clients regarding communication and service management.
- Communicate with clients and team members in writing, via phone and in person to conclude and sign tax returns.
- Identify potential tax issues and evaluate alternative actions to lessen tax burden.
- Recognize and communicate potential risks, changes in tax policy, and apply new policies to compliance.
- Conduct period client meetings.
- Manage resource allocation, workflow and utilization based on business needs.
- Identify when research is necessary; frame research issues and identify reliable sources.
- Analyze facts and authorities and report researched issues for various global tax and HR matters.
- Develop resolutions based on general knowledge and transfer them into tax functional specialties.
- Prepare correspondence on global HR and individual tax issues.
- Partner with Expatriate Services professionals on projects, proposals, practice development and client service matters.
- Assist in addressing routine questions from federal and state agencies.
- Attend professional development and training sessions regularly.
- Participate in marketing, networking and business development within the Expatriate Services specialization.
- Attend networking events and cross‑sell other BDO services to current clients.
- Other duties as required.
- Direct and supervise Expatriate Services Associates and Senior Associates on projects.
- Review work prepared by associates and provide review comments.
- Act as a career advisor to associates.
- Provide verbal and written performance feedback.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, International Business, Human Resource Management, International Human Resource Management or other related field.
Skills and Abilities
- Six (6) or more years of related work experience.
- Prior supervisory experience.
- Prior study abroad or international work experience.
- Licensed CPA, attorney or enrolled agent (preferred).
- American Payroll Association member (preferred).
- Society of Human Resource Management certification (preferred).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Experience with tax applications and research tools such as Go Systems.
- Fluency in foreign languages (preferred).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Superior customer service skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Strong teamwork and stakeholder communication.
- Deadline‑driven project management and multitasking.
- Analytical and diagnostic skills.
- Computer skills and aptitude for new software.

Individual salaries are determined after consideration of qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.
- National: $94,500 – $189,000
- Maryland: $94,500 – $189,000
- NYC/Long Island/Westchester: $94,500 – $189,000
- Washington DC: $94,500 – $189,000
