SENDCo / Special Educational Needs Coordinator

An exciting opportunity for a qualified Teacher to lead SEND provision, behaviour management and inclusive practice within primary education. Ideal for a classroom practitioner with strengths in SEN support, curriculum development, safeguarding and staff leadership.

SALARY: £34,822 to £45,351 FTE (£13,928 to £18,140 Actual Salary) + Benefits

JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a SENDCo to determine the strategic development of SEND policy and provision within a thriving primary school.

As a SENDCo you will oversee the day-to-day operation of the SEN policy, coordinate provision for pupils with additional needs and provide professional guidance to colleagues, parents and external agencies.

Working closely with senior leaders, the SENDCo will analyse assessment data, monitor intervention impact, promote inclusive curriculum access and ensure statutory compliance with the SEND Code of Practice while modelling high-quality teaching.

DUTIES
  • Lead SEND Strategy:
    Determine and drive the strategic development of SEND policy and provision across the school
  • Oversee SEN Policy:
    Manage the day-to-day operation of the SEN policy and coordinate targeted provision
  • Maintain SEND Register:
    Ensure accurate records, provision maps and statutory documentation are up to date
  • Identify and Assess Needs:
    Facilitate identification of pupils’ SEND and use formative assessment to inform interventions
  • Monitor Provision Impact:
    Analyse assessment data, evaluate intervention groups and report on pupil progress
  • Champion Inclusive Curriculum:
    Promote access to a broad, structured and coherent curriculum for all learners
  • Advise on Graduated Approach:
    Provide guidance to staff on high-quality teaching and SEN support strategies
  • Manage Staff:
    Line manage 1:1 Teaching Assistants and the Learning Mentor with due attention to workload
  • Collaborate with Stakeholders:
    Work effectively with parents, carers, local authorities and external agencies
  • Ensure Statutory Compliance:
    Fulfil duties in line with the SEND Code of Practice, safeguarding and data protection requirements
  • Contribute to School Improvement:
    Support self-evaluation and ensure SEND priorities are reflected in the School Improvement Plan
  • Promote Positive Behaviour:
    Support consistent and fair behaviour management aligned with school policy
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS ESSENTIAL
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and degree-level qualification
  • Proven experience of leadership and management within a school setting
  • Demonstrable experience of successful line management and staff development
  • Experience with data analysis and using outcomes to inform strategic decisions
  • Strong knowledge of SEND legislation, safeguarding and inclusive practice
  • Understanding of high-quality teaching and ability to model best practice
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues, parents and external agencies
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to promoting high standards, equality and positive behaviour
DESIRABLE
  • SENDCo qualification or commitment to complete the National SENDCo Qualification within two years
  • Experience contributing to school self-evaluation and development planning
  • Understanding of school finances and resource deployment
  • Strong IT skills to support learning and record keeping
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development
