About the Role

The Senior Buyer will report into the Procurement Manager, executing procurement activities for equipment, materials, and services to ensure timely, cost‑effective supply to Hydro’s UK Operating businesses. Supporting category strategies, managing supplier relationships, and contributing to continuous improvement in procurement performance. Providing guidance to Buyers and collaborating closely with internal stakeholders to meet operational and commercial objectives.

About You

You will ideally have:

  • A graduate degree in supply chain management, business, engineering or related discipline
  • Membership of a professional body such as CIPS
  • Proven experience in procurement roles, ideally within equipment supply or technical industries
  • Proven ability to manage sourcing exercises, negotiate contracts, and analyse commercial data
  • Strong negotiation and supplier management skills
  • Experience with price analysis, source selection and justification
  • Understanding of import/export regulations and logistics processes
  • Experience managing international supply chains
Key Duties
  • Support the development and maintenance of a competitive supply base aligned with the Company’s strategic and operational requirements.
  • Implement and uphold the Company’s procurement and quality policies and ensure these are embedded within day‑to‑day purchasing activities.
  • Lead sourcing exercises, including commercial negotiations, supplier selection, and drafting of purchase agreements under guidance from the Procurement Manager.
  • Contribute to the development of Category Plans, including demand forecasting, market analysis, and identification of cost‑saving opportunities.
  • Deliver value through effective sourcing, supplier performance management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Identify and evaluate procurement options that provide value for money and support operational efficiency.
  • Monitor price trends and market conditions, advising the Procurement Manager and relevant stakeholders of potential impacts on cost and supply.
  • Support the establishment and reporting of procurement performance metrics, including:
  • cost of goods, on‑time delivery, and lead time
  • quality of products and services.
  • Provide guidance and support to Buyers, promoting best practice in procurement and quality management across all divisions
  • Conduct supplier risk assessments and support the implementation of risk‑mitigation strategies to ensure continuity of supply.
