Assists with agricultural research by operating and maintaining farm equipment. Assists with maintenance of buildings grounds and other infrastructure used for agricultural research. Very limited to no interactions with animals. Performs other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities- 30% - Essential - Operates and coordinates farm vehicles and equipment used in research field preparation, planting, fertilizing, maintaining, spraying, harvesting and breakdown of field at end of project. Operates hand, power and shop tools for maintenance of farm equipment and general ground maintenance. Performs annual, emergency and needed maintenance for farm equipment to include farm vehicles.
- 20% - Essential - Assists the Farm Manager in the selection of summer, temporary and other farm staff. Provides training to new employees on tasks as well as maintenance training to farm employees. Acts as Lead by guiding the work of others who perform similar tasks. Performs supervisory duties as well as other essential duties of the Farm Manager in his absence.
- 20% - Essential - Assists in coordination with Researchers team and Farm Manager with the establishment, maintenance and completion of research field plots. This is to include layout, setup, fertilization and maintenance regimes, harvest and field breakdown at the end of the project. Makes timely suggestions for field work design or improvements for farm operations to Farm Manager and Center Director.
- 15% - Essential - Keeps records of equipment maintenance, regulatory compliance, pesticide application and personnel training. Assists Farm Manager in recording and maintaining field operations, farm and other maintenance records.
- 15% - Essential - Repairs and maintains equipment and buildings with available tools using safe, efficient and effective methods, Assists Farm Manager in the management and security needs of the Research Center. Other duties as assigned.
- Education - 1st Bachelor’s Degree - Animal husbandry, agriculture or a related field and work experience that is directly related to the area of employment. Work experience that is directly related to the area of employment may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.
- Have or acquire (within the first 90 days of onboarding) and maintain a South Carolina Pesticide license with Category 10 certification.
