Senior Director of Development & Unit Lead – College of Business
Join Clemson University’s Advancement Division as the Senior Director of Development and Unit Lead for the Wilbur O. and Ann Powers College of Business. Located in Clemson, SC, this role reports to the Executive Director of Development and oversees fundraising strategy, team supervision, and collaborative partnership initiatives across the college and the broader university community.
JOB SUMMARYSupport the College of Business by providing strategic oversight and leadership for all philanthropic engagement levels. Develop and execute fundraising strategies aligned with institutional priorities, foster collaboration across campus fundraising teams, and act as a key liaison between the College and the Division.
JOB DUTIES- Manage a dynamic portfolio (up to 150 prospects/donors with capacity for major gifts). Qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward gifts from college/unit donors, alumni, and friends through 160-180 visits annually. Raise a minimum of $2 million annually, with subsequent goals determined with the Executive Director.
- Establish strong partnerships with the Dean and college leadership, leading capital campaign efforts and advancing the college’s philanthropic strategy.
- Directly supervise a team of development officers and internal support members, coaching and mentoring them to achieve fundraising and performance objectives.
- Utilize relationships with the Dean and other key leaders to advance philanthropic priorities and exceed annual fundraising goals.
- Lead collaborative efforts with team members across the Advancement division essential to the College’s fundraising goals.
- Comprehensive job knowledge for complex fundraising situations.
- Job knowledge: manage work of others, hire, train, evaluate performance, and administer corrective action.
- Budgetary responsibilities: monitor (not manage) the departmental budget.
- PhYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Walk or move about (10%); communicate, converse (70%); recognize or inspect visually (20%). - WORKING CONDITIONS:
Overnight travel required (45%).
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 5+ years related experience in fundraising, development, sales, alumni engagement
- Experience in higher education or complex non‑profit fundraising with a proven ability to close six‑ and seven‑figure gifts.
Standard hours: 37.5 hours per week.
