Senior Geodetic Technician

Location:

Clemson, SC

Job Summary

Under supervision, the employee will utilize survey data collection instruments to provide as-built information for the Clemson University Facilities Atlas. Other tasks include general drafting in AutoCAD Civil 3D, topographical surveys, and maintaining an inventory of survey tools and supplies.

Job Duties
  • 60% - Essential – Collect Survey Data:
    Collects survey data using GNSS/GPS receiver, robotic total station, and data collector with appropriate field survey software. Exports files from data collector to an office computer for processing and introduction to AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • 30% - Essential – Collect/Study Data:
    Downloads information and reflects it in AutoCAD Civil 3D. Converts data to the university mapping system and links to proper format. Assists in maintaining the university atlas & updating the location of underground utilities, buildings, roads, etc. Uses benchmarks, control points, and GNSS coordinate systems. Stewards all archival data issued to and from the survey office.
  • 10% - Essential – GIS and Mapping:
    Provides location of university utilities for construction. Provides as-built information for renovation & new construction. Stakes out data from AutoCAD drawings to field installation per supervisor, architect, engineer or contractor. Assists with data collection for certain GIS department needs.
Minimum Requirements

Education:

High School Diploma or Equivalent and progressively responsible field experience in geodetic surveying.

Preferred Requirements

Work Experience:

3+ years in a related field.

    Fundamental working knowledge of concepts, practices and procedures and ability to apply in varied situations.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities:

    No supervisory duties.
  • Budgetary Responsibilities:
    No fiscal responsibility for the department's budget.
Physical Requirements
  • 60% – Stand for prolonged periods.

  • 90% – Recognize or inspect visually.
  • 10% – Move, transport, raise or lower.
  • 60% – Extend hands or arms in any direction.
  • 100% – Perceive, observe, clarity of vision.
Working Conditions
  • 60% – Exposure to heat or cold.
  • 50% – Exposure to dust/fumes.
  • 75% – Wet or humid.
  • 25% – Noise.

Hours:

37.5 per week.

Compensation Information

Anticipated Salary Range: $45,300.00 - $55,797.00.

Essential Personnel Level

Normal Operations. Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected to work on-site during emergency situations.
