JOB SUMMARY
This temporary position supports Clemson University field operations related to water level monitoring, applied research, and infrastructure data collection. The technician deploys and services monitoring equipment, assembles sensor enclosures, supports deployment planning and permitting activities, and may assist with organizing and supervising student deployment teams. Other duties as assigned.
JOB DUTIES- 70% – Essential:
Deploy, service, and maintain water level sensors at field locations. Assemble and build water level sensor enclosures and associated hardware. Organize, coordinate, and assist in managing student deployment and field support teams, as applicable. - 20% – Essential:
Obtain required permissions and prepare, submit, and file encroachment permits and related documentation as necessary. Maintain accurate records of deployments, maintenance activities, GPS locations, and equipment inventory. - 10% – Essential:
Use RTK GPS or high‑accuracy GNSS equipment to precisely locate, document, and verify installed water level sensors. Assist with deployment planning, including site reconnaissance, coordination with partners, and scheduling.

High School or Equivalent - Work Experience:
1+ years work experience in a clinical or research setting.
- Education:
1st Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree - Licenses:
Driver’s License Class D normal < 26,000 and clean driving record. - Work Experience:
2+ years hands‑on technical or fabrication experience, such as basic CAD design, 3D printing, prototyping, woodworking, or general mechanical assembly. - Experience with environmental monitoring equipment, field instrumentation, or sensor deployment projects.
- Experience using RTK GPS or survey‑grade GNSS systems.
- Familiarity with permitting, right‑of‑way, or encroachment processes.
- Experience organizing or supervising student or technical field teams.
- Experience with GIS.
Fundamental working knowledge of concepts, practices and procedures and ability to apply in varied situations.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESActs as Lead – guides the work of others who perform essentially the same work.
BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITIESNo Budget Responsibilities – no fiscal responsibility for the department’s budget.

Anticipated Hourly Rate: $23.00
Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate’s previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson’s compensation guidelines.
Normal Operations – required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected to work on‑site during emergency situations.
