Process Development and Scale-Up
:
Plan and execute pilot trials, translating lab-scale formulations into efficient, commercially viable processes. Perform risk assessments for new and existing processes, identifying and mitigating scale-up challenges. Work closely with the Head of Process Chemistry to finalise process parameters and documentation.

Post-Production Optimisation

Technical Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution: Investigate non-conforming batches, conduct root-cause analyses, and implement corrective actions to minimise downtime. Support complaint investigations by reviewing process data, identifying points of failure, and recommending process or formulation changes.

Collaboration and Knowledge Transfer: Bridge communication between the Development and Manufacturing teams, ensuring clarity on process protocols and scale-up requirements. Mentor and guide junior chemists, technicians, and other stakeholders to cultivate a deeper understanding of formulations and process standards.

Raw Material Evaluation and Approval: Assess new or alternative raw materials for suitability, collaborating with suppliers and internal departments as needed. Conduct lab-scale tests on proposed raw material substitutions and provide detailed recommendations.

Data Management and System Inputs: Maintain accurate technical records, including washout and filling requirements, to ensure data integrity in internal systems (e.g., GBOMs, ERP). Generate and analyse process metrics to inform continuous improvements and uphold compliance standards.

Formulation Approval and Scale-Up Readiness: Work with the Head of Process Chemistry to evaluate formulation readiness for large-scale production. Assist in reviewing and approving Bronze Seal documentation and collaborating on Gold Seal submissions.

Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborate with the Planning and Scheduling teams to synchronise pilot or first-production runs with the overall manufacturing timelines. Provide timely updates on process readiness, scale-up hurdles, and any support needed from other departments.

Team Contribution and Development: Support the Head of Process Chemistry in training and supervising junior process chemists and technicians. Contribute ideas and best practices that promote a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and innovation.

The Skills.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Chemistry, Cosmetic Science, SCS Diploma in Cosmetic Science, or a related scientific discipline (Master’s or PhD highly desirable).

Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar process chemistry or scale-up role within personal care, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, or FMCG. Demonstrated expertise in pilot-scale trials, process troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Technical

Skills:

Familiarity with GMP, quality standards, and health & safety regulations. Proficient in data analysis, process mapping, and technical reporting. Experience with formulating and scaling up liquid, semi-solid, or solid products.
