Metered Customer Service Advisor – Fixed Term Contract 23 months

Salaries
: £25,776 – £31,981 (depending on experience)

Work type
: 37 hours per week, Monday–Friday – Fixed Term Contract for 23 months.

Role Overview

We are looking for a Metered Customer Service Advisor to join the Water Service Delivery team at Yorkshire Water. You will ensure domestic and commercial water meters are read accurately and timely, and provide immediate resolution of metering issues while delivering excellent customer service.

Where you fit in

  • Locate external meter chambers and customers’ premises (homes, factories, schools, etc.) on a cyclical basis to record water meter readings.
  • Maintain meter‑reading rounds and location notes to agreed standards.
  • Attend customer appointments to investigate high/low consumption and take appropriate action.
  • Carry out ad‑hoc meter readings such as checks and final reads.
  • Identify and replace damaged meters where possible and within trained capability.
  • Identify street furniture defects and undertake remedial action as appropriate.
  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety legislation and accident‑management procedures.
  • Work as part of the team to achieve individual and team performance objectives.
  • Take personal responsibility for health and safety, risk management and control of work.
  • Demonstrate relentless drive, energy and determination to deliver sustainable out performance for Yorkshire Water.
  • Show financial awareness in day‑to‑day business decisions.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Comfortable with outdoor work in all weathers and terrains.
  • Ability to lift heavy items such as manhole covers (manual handling).
  • Understanding of where your role fits within a business plan and ability to deliver outputs.
  • Full driving licence with less than 6 points.
  • Competent IT skills – use of MS Office applications and quick adaptation to new systems.
  • Experience working independently and in a customer‑service environment.

Preferable Experience

  • Understanding of household plumbing and water distribution.
  • Experience delivering against challenging business targets.
  • Experience in a commercially‑orientated and/or regulated environment.
  • Experience with in the water or wastewater sectors or broader utilities, process or manufacturing industries.
