Position: PT - Bus Driver - CDL / Non-CDL

Non-CDL: $17.00/hr

CDL: $17.86/hr

Position open until filled.

Brief Description

Duties include driving a small transit vehicle, including a passenger bus or van, in a safe, courteous, and efficient manner, collecting the appropriate fare, and providing passenger information as required or upon request.

On occasion, it may be necessary for this position to fulfill a dispatching role. Duties include dispatching public transportation services in accordance with the laws and regulations governing the employing department, and with department functions, policies, and practices.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to operate a small transit vehicle safely
  • Knowledge of city and county streets
  • Ability to work effectively with the general public, especially the elderly, disabled, and school children, and be attentive to needs
  • Ability to recognize and report vehicle maintenance problems
  • Knowledge of vehicle maintenance
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service
  • Ability to quickly operate specialized equipment
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions
Education and Experience

High school graduate or equivalent, preferably with some experience in working with the public; OR

Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Certificates and Licenses Required

For Non-CDL holders: A valid Class C Texas Non-Commercial Driver License (NON-CDL) with a Passenger Endorsement and the ability to maintain a satisfactory driving record.

For CDL holders: A valid Class C Texas commercial driver license (CDL) with a Passenger Endorsement and the ability to maintain a satisfactory driving record.

Environmental Factors and Safety Hazards

Daily outdoor work includes, but is not limited to, exposure to dampness, dirt, noise, temperature extremes, vehicle fumes, petroleum products, chemicals, vehicle vibrations, traffic, road conditions, and weather conditions.

May utilize standard office equipment, including multi-line telephone, computer, fax machine, copier, scanner, printer, etc.

Tools and Equipment Used

Operates a small transit vehicle containing attendant switches, controls, levers, a mobile data terminal, a computer, a broom, a mop, and a vacuum for cleaning the bus's interior.
