Overview
Compensation - $31.99/hr
Position open until filled.
This is a very responsible management position. General function is to efficiently and effectively manage and supervise all of the coordination of single or multiple large-scale public works projects, including overseeing the time, cost and quality of construction projects. Works independently with general supervision provided by the Assistant Director of Public Works/City Engineer and the City Engineer.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES- Knowledge of advanced construction practices and materials
- Ability to read and interpret civil construction plans and details
- Knowledge of Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry as applied in routine engineering computations
- Knowledge of basic principles of public works construction, inspection and construction management
- Ability to research a variety of information
- Ability to inspect a variety of elevated and sub-surface locations including utility trenches, concrete structures and storm sewers
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Hold an expert knowledge of construction and building products, construction details, and relevant rules, regulations and quality standards
- Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, prioritize and organize work assignments, work well under pressure and stress, and make competent decisions
- Hold excellent managerial, leadership, organizational, customer and public relations, personnel management, and budgetary skills
- Possess excellent time and project management skills
- Ability to identify defects and hazards associated with construction projects
- Knowledge of City policies and procedures
- Skill in enforcing Federal, State, and City building, health and construction related codes and ordinances
- Knowledge of the City’s mapping system
- Knowledge of surveying equipment
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology, Project Management, Construction Management or related field plus five years of progressively responsible experience in construction or construction inspection work, at least two of which shall be in a supervisory capacity; OR
Any equivalent combination of education, experience, certification, licenses and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to allow the candidate to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
Bilingual in Spanish preferred
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIREDA Valid Class C Texas driver license and the ability to maintain a satisfactory driving record
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AND SAFETY HAZARDSPrimarily in an outdoor environment with the ability to operate indoors as well. May be exposed to extreme heat and cold during summer and winter months, including wet environments. The field work could expose the individual to hazards including traffic, insects and wild plants such as thorn bushes and poison ivy.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USEDStandard office equipment including multi-line telephone, computer, fax machine, copier, scanner, shredder, printer, etc.
