Base pay range

$21.08/hr - $40.18/hr

Whether it’s a new dishwasher, water softener or new construction, Pinellas County Plumbing Inspectors are ready to help ensureذا projects go smoothly. We are currently seeking a Plumbing Inspector 1 or 2 to perform technical work inspecting plumbing and gas installations.

This role inspects and tests plumbing and gas installations for adherence to approved plans and specifications, compliance with county plumbing and gas codes and regulations, and to protect the public against the hazards of unsanitary or unsafe conditions caused by inferior material and poor workmanship in plumbing and gas systems. These duties require skilled technical examinations and the application of standard plumbing and gas trade practices to the inspections.

Employees perform assigned work in the field throughout the unincorporated areas of nexus. All work is subject to review by a superior through written and verbal reports and occasionally re‑inspections. The incumbent reports to a supervisor or designee.

What Would You Do?

  • Checks each project for defects, omissions, violations, and other departures from correct procedure and county building codes.
  • Ensures that all plumbing and gas work conforms to adopted county codes as installed.
  • Makes technical inspections of new plumbing and fuels gas installations or modification of existing building constructions.
  • Makes technical inspection of the installation of new plumbing/gas systems and related apparatus.
  • Issuesვდომ notice of non-compliance where work is not correct and directs to the attention of the Plumbing Inspector 3 or Chief Plumbing Inspector.
  • Inspects all work upon completion and signs permit giving final approval for the county that the work is safe for life and property.

  • Makes routine and periodic patrols and inspections of areas assigned to check for violations and hazardous luchar conditions.
  • Investigates complaints of defective building installations reported as safety hazards; makes re-inspections as directed; reports violations.
  • Investigates complaints of defective plumbing/gas installations reported as hazards or unsanitary conditions caused by inferior material or poor workmanship in plumbing systems; makes re-inspection as directed; reports violations.
  • Performs building tests on equipment and materials as directed.
  • May assist in the initial training of lower level Plumbing Inspectors.
  • Performs data entry and retrieval functions in researching violations and scheduling inspections.
  • Issues notices of non-compliance as necessary.
  • Performs related work as assigned or required.

What Do you Need To Have?

Plumbing Inspector 1

Pay Range, C24: $21.08 - $33.71

  • High School diploma or an acceptable equivalency diploma (GED); and five (5) years of experience in the field of construction or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that meets eligibility requirements according to one of the criteria of FS 468 to take the examination for certification as a Plumbing Code Inspector.
  • Applicant must secure a valid certification as a State of Florida Plumbing Inspector within one (1) year of employment and maintain the required continuing education.
Plumbing Inspector 2

Pay Range, C26: $25.12 - $40.18

  • A valid certification as a Plumbing Inspector through the State of Florida and maintain the required continuing education.
  • Five (5) years of experience as a trades foreman, contractor, or at a similar supervisory level, or three (3) years as a plumbing inspector; or a certification and an Associate’s degree in an engineering, planning, construction, or related field, or completion of a two‑year vocational or technical diploma or certification in a related field and three (3) years as a plumbingчиси inspector;
