Job Responsibilities- Check out customer groceries efficiently and accurately.
- Uphold government regulations concerning sale of alcoholic beverages and taxation.
- Follow proper check, ATM, and credit procedures.
- Use proper tare procedures when ringing up scalable items.
- Clean and stock Front End areas, including own register – changing tapes and ribbon as necessary.
- Follow all cash handling procedures – meeting and exceeding regional cashier variance policy.
- Assist with training of new Cashier and Cashier Assistant Team Members.
- Assist supervisor in controlling customer flow and reducing backed‑up lines to lower customer waiting time.
- Proactively participate in company programs as directed by leadership.
- Arrive to workstation on time, appropriately groomed, dressed and ready to work; work all scheduled shifts and attend required trainings and meetings.
- Provide excellent customer service, address needs of customers in a timely and effective manner, and model suggestive selling techniques; answer phones and pages promptly and courteously.
- Maximize sales potential through effective and proper procedures for prepping, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising products.
- Follow and comply with established procedures, including Weights and Measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices.
- Maintain, or ensure maintenance of, a clean and sanitary working and shopping environment; maintain equipment according to WFM cleanliness and safety standards.
- Perform opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned; ensure accuracy of signs and pricing.
- Immediately report safety hazards and violations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by store or company leadership.
- US only – for those hired November 2024 and beyond, cashiers will be assigned shopper training to complete and, as needed, may be assigned shopper tasks within the Customer Service Team.
- Demonstrate patience in dealing with customers and Team Members.
- Maintain proficiency with the Cashier Code Book and PLUs.
- Have strong basic math skills.
- Have strong to excellent communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team.
- Deliver information in a clear and respectful manner to fellow Team Members, customers, and vendors.
- Meet customer service expectations and standards in all interactions with customers, vendors, and Team Members.
- Follow directions and procedures; exhibit effective time management and organization skills.
- Have a passion for natural foods and the mission of Whole Foods Market.
- Work with a strong work ethic and ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with a sense of urgency.
- Understand and comply with WFM quality goals.
- Have strong attention to detail.
No prior retail experience required.
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
- Stand/walk 6–8 hours in an 8‑hour work day.
- Use hand single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling.
- Perform motions that include bending, twisting, squatting and reaching.
- Be exposed to FDA‑approved cleaning chemicals.
- Work in temperatures 90 °F.
- Be able to work in a wet and cold environment.
- Work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Use tools and equipment, including box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery.
- May require use of ladders.
The wage range for this position is $15.00–$24.40 hourly, commensurate with experience.
