Maintain patient confidentiality.
Under the clinical supervision of CCC physicians, the CT Laboratory Nurse assists physicians with patient care through patient CT procedures and treatment, general case management and patient education. The CT Laboratory Nurse also provides clinical supervision to the Medical Assistants and CT Technologists and provides back‑up to both when they are not available.
What You Will Be DoingThe following is a list of major responsibilities of the CT Laboratory Nurse. It is not intended to be an all inclusive summary and additional responsibilities will be assigned, as the need is determined. CT Nurses are primarily responsible to the CT Laboratory. However, all CT Lab Nurses are required to assist other physicians and the Office Nurses, as necessary, as directed by CCC physicians or the Office /CT Manager.
PatientCommunication, evaluation, and treatment
- Triage patient telephone calls appropriately. This includes directly taking patient calls from the Operator if the patient is experiencing a life threatening emergency.
- Evaluate patient status and communicate to physician.
- Communicate with patients professionally, timely and clearly, making an allowance for patient disabilities.
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
- Maintain knowledge of cardiac medications. Administer oral or intravenous cardiac medications under physician supervision based on physician approved protocols.
- Call patients with test preparations requested including dye allergy prep and hydration needs in accordance with the physician approved protocols.
- Facilitate communication among CCC physicians, hospital staff, other providers and other CCC departments.
- Prepare orders in consultation with supervising physician.
- Maintain current, accurate and complete patient medical records.
- Chart or supervise the charting of lab results and communicate results to supervising physicians.
- Evaluate the patient education/knowledge level and provide instructions with relation to medications, disease process, procedures and follow-up medical care.
- Teach and monitor patients regarding reduction of cardiac risk factors (i.e. smoking cessation, weight loss, dietary changes, etc.).
- Review noninvasive and invasive protocols with patients prior to procedure or diagnostic test as requested by physicians.
- Instruct patients regarding use of pacemakers, holter monitors and other special equipment if questions arise.
- Review medication regimes.
- Reinforce physician’s care plan with patients and family, as needed.
- Provide clinical supervision and guidance to the Medical Assistants and CT Technologists.
- Train and supervise Medical Assistants and CT Technologists in vital signs, medication list and patient instruction.
- Serve as a primary clinical resource for Medical Assistants and CT Technologists.
- Maintain professional nursing affiliations and enhance professional growth and development to keep current in the latest trends in nursing.
- Adhere to all CCC policies and procedures.
- Understand OSHA rules as it pertains to Bloodborne Pathogens.
- Always present a professional appearance and a positive attitude towards patients, the practice and co‑workers.
A current Florida RN license and at least five (5) years of inpatient hospital nursing experience, preferably with critical care and significant cardiology exposure. A Bachelor’s Degree and experience at Morton Plant/Mease Hospitals a plus. Current ACLS and CPR certification is also required. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
