Location, Contact and Salary Information

Minimum Biweekly Rate of Pay: $3,190.18 (In accordance with current spending restrictions, if the appointment is an internal promotion, the position will be filled at the minimum of the pay grade or up to 5% of the employee’s current rate, whichever higher.)

Position Description
  • Planning, organizing, and managing the overall operations of the Regional Juvenile Detention Center including programs within secure detention, home detention, and pre-placement supervision, and ensuring achievement of established goals and departmental policy and procedures.
  • Establishing current, efficient facility operating procedures that comply with all departmental policy and quality assurance standards as well as specifically identified regional directives.
  • Establishing and managing personnel policies and procedures for recruitment, hiring, disciplining, rewarding, training and scheduling staff of the detention center.
  • Developing strategic plan and goals and objectives for center operations.
  • Managing all facets of purchasing, internal fiscal controls, and supply and property inventories.
  • Developing, implementing, and communicating a mission that ensures that detainees are safe and secure and that protects public safety.
  • Completing periodic written reports as required by region and department policy.
  • Managing the administrative functions of the detention center in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Maintaining effective working relationships with all agencies in the Juvenile Justice continuum, and other parts of the Department.
  • Recommending improvements and/or enhancements for policy and procedure related to detention center operation.
  • Ensuring full facility compliance with life, safety, health, and sanitation, and quality or life related standards.
  • This position must comply with the requirements set forth in Section 215.422, Florida Statutes, Prompt Payment Compliance Law.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of basic Management principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of detention services policy and procedure.
  • Knowledge of Department, State and Federal policy and procedure relating to operation of a Juvenile Detention Center.
  • Knowledge of methods of compiling, organizing and analyzing data.
  • Ability to practice management principles and practices.
  • Ability to develop and implement various program monitoring methodologies and techniques.
  • Ability to provide in-service training on detention center operational methods, facility operating procedures and department policy of procedure.
  • Ability to develop program policy, procedures, manuals, administrative rules and agreements.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to prioritize workload.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to develop various reports.
  • Ability to formulate and monitor standards and operating policies and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5 years of supervisory experience in a secured facility.

If initially hired with an out-of-state license, the Florida resident must obtain a valid Florida state driver’s license within 30 days of hire. Licenses suspended or revoked for any reason, work permits (Business purpose/Employment/education only licenses) and some types of restricted licenses are not acceptable. Licenses that have Corrective Lenses Restriction are acceptable, provided the driver wears corrective lenses while operating the vehicle.
