TARGET ENTRY SALARY: $111,559 - $117,136 DOQ
Under general direction, the Fire Training Officer supports and assists the Division Chief of Training in the daily operations of the department. Plans, directs, organizes, participates in, and monitors all of the Fire and EMS training programs.
OverviewEssential Functions:
The essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assist, supports, and helps with disseminating new information and policies regarding fire and emergency medical services through the Fire and Rescue Department.
- Supervises, leads, guides, and directs various personnel; delegates work, provides performance feedback, and assists in the resolution of various personnel conflicts.
- Acts as a liaison and coordinates, organizes, and monitors activities with counterparts in other jurisdictions.
- Provides technical, professional, and administrative assistance to senior department management and subordinate staff.
- Coordinates monthly continuing education sessions, as mandated by the County of Pinellas EMS and the State of Florida; provides advanced administrative and supervisory work to ensure all training and education occurs seamlessly and professionally.
- Monitors, oversees, and ensures that all components involved with CME's are completed; tracks and checks that CME dates are posted on PCEMS and CFR training calendar, instructors for each training, equipment and supplies for each training, and other coordination tasks.
- Establishes, develops, and maintains probationary Fire Medic training, monthly Probationary Employee training, monthly EMS training, monthly company ops training, and information from the Recruit school.
- Tracks, coordinates, and monitors all employees Fire and EMS credentials through Target Solutions.
- Assist, supports, and participates with any other training objectives provided by the Fire Division Chief of Training; collaborates with management staff to ensure all appropriate training and educational requirements are met by the division personnel, Fire, and EMS staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- A valid State driver's license is required.
- State of Florida Firefighter Certification is required.
- State of Florida EMT certification is required (State of Florida Paramedic Certification is preferred).
- Must obtain and maintain within one (1) year of appointment:
Fire Service Instructor I;
Live Fire Training Instructor I (40-hour);
Florida Incident Safety Officer (40-hour); ICS-300; ICS-400;
Blue Card Incident Command Certification.
Associate's Degree in Fire Science, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field AND six (6) years of progressively responsible fire service experience including one (1) year in a supervisory capacity. Must be able to pass physical examination to meet established health standards; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
