Minimum Requirements- A high school diploma or its equivalent.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.

- Occasional travel, including overnight and sometimes up to two weeks on an emergency program, required.

- The work schedule is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Successful candidate must pass a background screening as a condition of employment.
- Exotic Fruit Fly Detection:
- Places and services fruit fly detection devices per the Florida Fruit Fly Detection Manual.
- Conducts plant pest detection surveys in agricultural and residential environments.
- Performs all activities associated with the fruit fly detection program in a timely and responsible manner. Maintains a passing grade on all fruit fly‑related training material.
- Submits timely and accurate reports: inputs daily trapping records into e‑Trap and maintains all Fruit Fly Detection records as required by program standards, plus other necessary reports.
- Follows all established safety guidelines and any additional precautions and practices set forth by management.
- Public Relations:
- Conducts themselves in a professional manner and presents a neat, professional appearance to the public.
- Responds to consumer complaints, or refers them to the proper agency when necessary.
- Attends meetings and workshops to keep current on Department activities.
- Field Diagnostic and Sampling:
- Conducts field diagnostic tasks using approved sampling methods and equipment to collect laboratory samples.
- Detects, examines, collects, prepares, and submits insects and other arthropods, disease, and soil samples to the appropriate technical bureau for confirmation.
- Obtains additional information using investigative techniques, including reference materials, source information, and interviews with authoritative sources to assist in diagnosis.

Activities:- Assists with inspections of plant material and other high‑risk commodities for the purpose of excluding plant pests.
- Emergency Programs:
- Assists in exotic pest surveys and protocols within the state.
- Responds to emergency programs that necessitate prolonged absences from assigned headquarters and unusual working hours.
- Related Work: Performs related work as directed by management.
- Skilled in completing and maintaining accurate records.
- Recognizes citrus varieties and other known hosts of Exotic Fruit Flies.
- Works outdoors in hot, cold, and humid environments.
- Walks on uneven ground and in inclement weather.
- Interacts with the public and team members in a professional and courteous manner.
- Reads and draws basic maps, and locates properties using street and geographic maps.
- Lifts 25 lbs. and bends repetitiously.
