Heavy Equipment Fuel & Lube Technician. CDL with Hazmat and Tanker Endorsements REQUIRED Position Summary
The Heavy Equipment Fuel & Lube Technician is responsible for fueling, lubricating, and performing routine preventive maintenance on heavy construction equipment and support vehicles. This role is critical to ensuring equipment reliability, minimizing downtime, and supporting safe, efficient field operations.
Key Responsibilities- Fuel heavy equipment and on-road/off-road vehicles in the field and/or shop
- Perform routine lubrication services (greasing, oiling, fluid top-offs)
- Change engine oil, hydraulic oil, transmission fluid, and filters per maintenance schedules
- Inspect equipment for leaks, wear, damage, or safety concerns and report findings
- Maintain accurate service records, fuel logs, and maintenance checklists
- Assist mechanics with basic preventive maintenance and minor repairs
- Clean and service equipment to company and manufacturer standards
- Safely handle, store, and dispose of oils, lubricants, filters, and hazardous materials
- Maintain fuel/lube trucks, tools, and service areas in clean working order
- Follow all company safety policies, DOT regulations, and environmental requirements
- Excavators, dozers, loaders, graders
- Haul trucks, dump trucks, water trucks
- Skid steers, compactors, rollers
- Generators, compressors, and support equipment
Skills & Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of diesel engines and heavy equipment systems
- Understanding of lubrication practices and fluid types
- Ability to identify potential mechanical or safety issues
- Strong attention to detail and organization
- Ability to work independently and follow maintenance schedules
- Physical ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Valid CDL driver’s license with Tankers and Hazmat endorsement
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and climb on/off equipment safely
- 1–3 years working with heavy equipment or diesel maintenance
- Experience operating fuel/lube service trucks
- Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs
- OSHA or MSHA safety training (a plus)
- Comply with all safety policies and procedures
- Use proper PPE at all times
- Report unsafe conditions, incidents, or near misses immediately
- Ensure environmental compliance when handling fuels and lubricants
- Construction sites, quarries, and shop environments
- Exposure to noise, dust, grease, fuel, and varying temperatures
- May require early mornings, overtime, or weekend work

Mechanics, Equipment Operators, and Field Supervisors
