Water Worx Services, Inc. is seeking qualified applicants for the full-time Underground Piping Technician position. This position is responsible for a variety of activities related to the company’s overall success. Our success is built from the dedicated service of each one of our team members. SUPERVISIONRECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from the Service Manager.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICSThis classification performs the full range of duties in the water and sewer service and installation programs. In this position you will be required to ensure that water systems function in a safe and effective working condition and provide the highest level of safety for public use. Responsibilities include performing a wide variety of tasks in the repairing and testing of distribution systems and cross connection control devices.
Incumbents are expected to work independently and exercise judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. This class is distinguished from other operations and maintenance class series by having responsibility of cross connection control technician and performing more specialized inspection activities.
RANGE
Full Time: $24.00 - $30.00 per hour
QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of:- Practices and techniques of performing field inspections related to areas of assignment.
- Applicable state and local ordinances, regulations, and guidelines related to assigned duties.
- Record keeping and report preparation techniques and practices.
- Business arithmetic and statistical techniques.
- Safe work methods and safety practices pertaining to the work.
- Basic computer software related to work.
- English usage, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation.
- Techniques for dealing effectively with the public, vendors, contractors, and Company staff in person and over the telephone.
- Techniques for effectively representing the Company when contacting governmental agencies, contractors, property management representatives, and the public.
- Techniques for providing a high level of customer service to the public in person and over the telephone.
- Operate a variety of equipment and tools utilized in the underground plumbing trade.
- Assist with the repair and replacement of water service lines for both residential and commercial projects.
- Assist with the repair and replacement of sewer service lines for both residential and commercial projects.
- Plan and review new construction for water distribution and/or sanitary sewer connections.
- Read, interpret, and apply a wide variety of technical information from manuals, drawings, specifications, layouts, blueprints, and schematics.
- Correctly interpret and apply the policies, procedures, laws, and regulations pertaining to assigned programs.
- Lift up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance.
- Follow department policies and procedures related to assigned duties.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Organize your own work, set priorities, and meet critical time deadlines.
- Use English effectively to communicate in person, over the telephone, and in writing.
- Use tact, initiative, prudence, and independent judgment within general policy, procedural, and legal guidelines.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted during the course of the work.

Job Functions:
- Operate camera equipment to view broken and damaged underground utilities.
- Installs new water and sewer service lines for maintenance projects.
- Installation of backflow prevention devices for new and remodeled residential and commercial facilities.
- Conducts water and sewer repairs and replacements as project require.
- Repairs and replaces water and sewer taps, meters, valves, and other related components.
- Assists underground construction crews with the installation of water, sewer, and storm projects as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:- One (1) year of experience performing plumbing or water/sewer repairs or installation.
- Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade supplemented by specialized technical training.
- Valid North Carolina, class C, driver's license with satisfactory driving record.
- Ability to receive AWWA backflow tester certification (within 3 months of employment).
