Overview

Perform a combination of duties under the direction of a nurse or physician to assist in the examination and treatment of patients.

Responsibilities
  • Assist physicians in patient examinations by organizing and arranging instruments, leading patients into examination rooms, and checking and recording patients' height, weight, and temperature.
  • Collect and test specimens of body fluids and wastes to advise the physician of possible conditions.
  • Prepare instruments for sterilization and operate in-house sterilization equipment.
  • Complete routine medical records and reports, provide basic patient information and instruction, and perform other routine tasks to assist in providing good patient care.
  • Contact patients to reschedule missed appointments and emphasize the importance of adherence to medical guidelines for progress of treatment of tuberculosis or other communicable diseases.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
  • Equivalent to completion of a one-year training program at an accredited school for Medical Assistants.
  • A selection process will evaluate qualifications, including education and experience, supplemental questions, references, and other appropriate information. The top candidates will be invited to interview; a minimum interview score is required for eligibility.
  • All applicants offered a merit position may be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment; the cost will be covered by the County.
