Detention Aide

Position Summary

Family Court of St. Louis County is hiring Part Time Detention Aide positions within the Detention Department. Positions are non-merit and established with a Bona Fide Requirement:
Occupational Qualification requiring that the candidate be of the same gender as the resident unit.

• Exercise behavior management techniques in enforcement of rules and regulations in a secure facility at the front desk or in the unit.
• Provide informal individual and group counseling to juveniles.
• Supervise safety, personal conduct and care of juveniles during a shift under the general supervision of a higher level Detention Juvenile Officer or Chief Juvenile Officer.
• Record and track medication provided to juveniles and prepare reports regarding adjustment and progress.
• Coordinate and supervise juvenile work assignments, recreation activities and implement detention center programming.
• Maintain order and discipline among residents, escort residents to meals and programmed activities and operate security equipment.
• Provide first aid and dispense medication as directed by medical personnel.
• Conduct room, unit and body searches of residents and assist in crisis intervention.
• Perform other related work as assigned.

• High school education, GED, or equivalent with one year of previous experience in direct care and interaction with children such as YMCA, day care, schools, recreational facilities, or residential care programs.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Availability to work two eight‑hour shifts per week with required hours 6 a.m. – 2 p.m.; 2 p.m. – 10 p.m.; or 10 p.m. – 6 a.m. and holiday and weekend availability.
• Screening required: urinalysis, extensive background and criminal record check.

Salary: $21.49 Hourly.
