First State Military Academy is seeking a Supervisor of Special Education for the school year. Job DescriptionThe Supervisor of Special Education manages and coordinates all special education services for the cadets. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the needs of the students receiving special services are being met in compliance with state and federal special education regulations.
EducationMaster’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
Certificates & Licenses/Experience- Hold or be eligible for a valid State of Delaware certification as a Special Education Teacher of Students with Disabilities.
- Valid State of Delaware teaching license, or eligibility to obtain one.
- Special Education/Educational Diagnostician experience is preferred but not required.
- Ensure that evaluation procedures are followed in accordance with Delaware Administrative Code to determine whether a child has a disability and to determine the educational needs of the child.
- Ensure that the IEP includes the supports, services, modifications, and accommodations needed for the cadet to access and make meaningful progress in the general education curriculum and to address other educational needs.
- Ensure that cadets demonstrate progress toward IEP goals and/or general education curriculum, progress is documented, and progress is reported.
- Provide professional development and training for various groups and individuals within the school community.
- Audit school IEPs to ensure accuracy and completion as per IDEA Code/Policies.
- Assist the school with completion of the September 30th Unit/Needs Based Funding and the December 1st Child Find Counts for children with disabilities.
- Attend IEP meetings for cadets placed in outside school programs and monitor progress.
- Utilize the IEPPlus System for DOE audit protocols.
- Maintain and audit the special education record for all cadets receiving special education and related services.
- Collaborate with the building test coordinator to ensure each cadet’s testing accommodations are available for use during all state and school‑wide assessments, including the Alt Assessment.
- Supervise the IEP team to identify supports, services and accommodations to facilitate successful transition from one environment to another (e.g. activity to activity, LRE, building to building, grade to grade).
- Assist the IEP team in developing targeted intervention(s) and/or services to increase student achievement based on individual student data.
- Promote increased parent involvement. (e.g. attendance at IEP team meetings, parent conferences).
- Collaborate with staff to monitor students with high rates of discipline infractions to ensure the provision of FAPE and Procedural Safeguards.
- Facilitate the development of, and/or revision of a behavior support plan derived from a functional behavior assessment.
- Assist the IEP team in reviewing data to determine if criteria are met for participation in 12‑Month Programming, Reading Based Extended School Year Services, and Extended School Year services in accordance with Delaware Regulations.
- Provide technical assistance to teachers in data collection as it relates to the IEP.
- Assist in the district’s Unit Count Audit, Needs Based Audit.
- Other duties as assigned.
This is an eleven (11) month position.

Salary will be calculated based on the First State Military Academy salary schedule.
