At our retail locations, Pharmacy Technicians (Technicians) play a critical role in supporting our pharmacy teams to consistently deliver on our brand promise.

Technicians assist the pharmacy team to ensure smooth operations, timely and accurate prescription fulfillment, and caring service that exceeds patient expectations. They apply Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and best practices throughout shifts, demonstrate genuine care, and contribute to a safe and inclusive culture where all people feel valued. Until a Pharmacy Technician completes company training, registration, licensing and certification requirements, duties may be restricted by the Pharmacy Manager.

  • Live our purpose by following all company SOPs at each workstation, helping pharmacists manage and improve patient health.
  • Follow pharmacy workflow procedures at each workstation (production, pick‑up, drive‑thru, drop‑off) for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment.
  • Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care, creating heartfelt moments, offering immunizations and other services, and solving or escalating patient problems.
  • Complete basic inventory activities as permitted by law and directed by leadership – e.g., putting away medication deliveries, cycle counts, returns‑to‑stocks, waiting‑bin inventories.
  • Support a high‑performing team, embrace a growth mindset, seek opportunities to expand clinical and technical knowledge needed to better assist patients.
  • Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs, contributing to a safe, inclusive, engagingடி dynamic; voluntarily travel to other stores as needed by the business.
  • Understand and comply with all relevant federal, state and local laws, regulations, professional standards, and ethical principles. Comply with CVS policies and procedures to ensure patient safety and confidentiality.
  • Deliver additional patient health care services (e.g., immunizations, point‑of‑care testing, staffing off‑site clinics) where lawful and supported by training and certification.
Immunization Support
  • Complete additional licensure and training requirements to obtain Technician Immunizer status.
  • Educ shag patients about the importance of vaccines and refer questions to the Pharmacist‑on‑duty.
  • Monitor for adverse reactions; report events per public health requirements.
  • Review and collect patient information; track and document for each applicable patient.
  • Monitor and manage vaccine supplies.

  • Must comply with state board of pharmacy requirements or laws governing practice (age, education, licensure/certification).
  • State‑level licensure and national certification requirements vary by state;  to learn more.
    • If the state board does not set a minimum age, must be at least 16 years old.
    • If the state board does not set a minimum education, must have a high school diploma or equivalent or be actively enrolled.
