GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

This is the third of seven levels in the Grounds and Facility Maintenance series. Incumbents maintain assigned buildings and grounds. Responsibilities may include cleaning assigned facilities; maintaining landscaping; operating heavy equipment; setting up for meetings and events; touching up paint; replacing light bulbs, filters, and similar items; performing minor repairs to plumbing and electrical systems; performing rough carpentry and minor welding; installing small electrical appliances and furniture;

and securing buildings.

Example of Duties

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Fuctions:

  • Repairs and maintains non-mechanical/electrical building systems and/or structures which includes replacing parts, repairing fixtures, and/or performing related duties.
  • Paints interior and exterior surfaces; cleans and repairs surfaces; applies paint products.
  • Sets up chairs and tables for events, assembles event structures, and performs related duties.
  • Inspects systems, equipment, and/or structures and ensures safety requirements are met.
  • Secures, locks, and opens buildings, as necessary.
  • Cleans and maintains assigned facilities, which includes mopping, dusting, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, and removing trash.
  • Prepares logs and operational records.
  • Performs other work as required.

Typical Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND TRAINING



Education and Experience
High School diploma or GED equivalent.
One year of experience in a related area.

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the job's essential duties.

License and Certifications
Possession of a valid driver's license. Supplemental Information

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND STANDARDS REQUIRED

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Grounds and facilities maintenance principles and practices;
  • Applicable system and structure repair techniques;
  • Painting materials and techniques;
  • Applicable equipment, materials, and tools used in grounds maintenance activities;
  • Applicable standards and regulations;
  • Recordkeeping principles;
  • Safe work practices.

Skill in:

  • Maintaining grounds and facilities;
  • Operating and maintaining applicable grounds maintenance equipment and tools;
  • Cleaning, painting, and repairing surfaces and structures;
  • Inspecting facilities, equipment, and other structures;
  • Identifying and repairing/replacing unsafe equipment;
  • Maintaining records;
  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with subordinates, coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Physical Requirements :

The work is heavy work which requires exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:
  • Balancing:
    Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. The amount of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.
  • Climbing:
    Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.
  • Crawling:
    Moving about on hands, knees, hands, and feet.
  • Crouching:
    Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
  • Feeling:
    Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature, or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
  • Fingering:
    Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
  • Grasping:
    Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
  • Handling:
    Picking, holding, or otherwise working, primarily with the whole hand.
  • Hearing:
    Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discrimination sound.
  • Kneeling:
    Bending legs at knee to come to a rest…
