About the Role

The Vegetation Program Manager reports to the Operations Manager at ACRT Inc. This position identifies, inspects, and evaluates trees and brush along utility lines and submits inspection results to clients with recommendations. The role plans, directs, and coordinates activities of assigned tree clearance crews. It requires working outdoors, attention to detail, and strong interpersonal communication.

What You’ll Do

Supervise a Team of Consulting Utility Foresters

  • Plan and organize daily routes and assignments for CUFs
  • Lead new hire training and orientation
  • Track and audit CUF team performance
  • Report monthly production data
  • Act as liaison between CUFs and Operations Managers

Vegetation Inspecting & Management

  • Identify and inspect local trees with understanding of growth rates
  • Map circuits using client continuity lists
  • Patrol and investigate distribution/transmission circuits and prescribed work for client tree-trimming contractors
  • Enter tree trimming/brush removal prescriptions into handheld computer or comparable system
  • Notify property owners of tree trimming/brush removal work per client specifications
  • Manage issuance of work and track progress
  • Perform outage investigations when necessary
  • Negotiate line‑clearance crew access issues
  • Lead storm restoration efforts

Tree Trimming Assessments

  • Audit contractor work to ensure compliance with request forms and approved trimming
  • Determine timing of next trimming
  • Complete post‑audit forms and forward to management

Maintain State, Local, & Organizational Compliance

  • Obtain permits from public agencies and document work
  • Comply with regulatory requirements and client standards
  • Perform emergency response duties per safety, legal, and labor agreements
  • Adhere to attendance and work‑hour requirements
  • Conduct work safely to protect self and others
  • Wear required safety equipment (hard hat, vest, glasses, etc.)
  • Exemplify ACRT’s Guiding Principles

Positively Build Upon New & Existing Relationships

  • Liaise between clients, crews, and clients’ customers
  • Display a positive, optimistic attitude toward work, customers, peers, and the company
  • Maintain relationships with local client personnel and all relevant agencies
  • Potential participation in public presentations and meetings

About You

Must haves:

  • Associate’s degree in Forestry or Horticulture
  • Three years of related utility experience; ISA Arborist certification
  • 21 years of age or older, valid driver’s license, clean driving record

Nice to haves:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Forestry or Horticulture
  • ISA Utility Specialist and TRAQ certifications
Your Skills
  • Proficiency with company or job‑specific software systems
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) or similar suite
  • Identify local trees; knowledge of growth rates
  • Work in rugged terrain and inclement weather
  • Read and follow maps
  • Drive and operate a 4x4 vehicle
  • Self‑starter with excellent interpersonal skills; multitask and work independently or as a team
  • Excellent communication skills; comfortable interacting with senior management, customers, and clients
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and good judgement for business decisions
  • Knowledge of vegetation management and herbicide application
  • Knowledge of electric utility facilities and hardware

• This role may not be a good fit if you do not enjoy working independently and outdoors, are not comfortable driving a pickup truck or 4x4 off‑road vehicle, or cannot calmly communicate with customer conflicts.

  • All employees complete an online safe driver course and safety training.
