Tri-City Mental Health Authority is hiring to fill vacancies for the position of Psychiatric Technician I/II (Licensed) within the Mobile Crisis Care Program (MCCP) for the night shift
.
Tri-City’s MCCP operates 24/7 to provide crisis support. The schedule will involve a 3/12 shift pattern (three 12-hour days per workweek and one alternating 8-hour day every other week). Shifts may include weekends, daytime hours, and holidays. This position will initially follow a 5/40 schedule for approximately 3-6 months of training before transitioning to night shift.
Night Shifts- 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- 7:00 PM – 3:00 AM
- 8:00 PM – 8:00 AM
- 8:00 PM – 4:00 AM
Weekend and night shifts include Shift Differential Pay of $2.50 per hour on weekdays and $3.50 per hour on weekends. Holiday shifts include Holiday Pay.
The MCCP Psychiatric Technician will be part of a team that provides crisis intervention and stabilization, linkage and referral, consultation, and education within the scope of practice. The MCCP Psychiatric Technician reports to the Mobile Crisis Care Clinical Supervisor and Clinical Program Manager. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Under the direction of clinical staff, provide medication management services to a caseload of clients in the office and in the field; ensure proper acquisition and administration of medication.
- Provide education and training to clients, their families, and/or staff on medications, including symptoms, reactions, and side effects; inform clients of impact of abuse and misuse of medications.
- Conduct home/field visits to evaluate clients’ physical environment and behavior, such as anxiety, withdrawals, and behavioral health progression/regression.
- Take and record measures of clients’ vital signs and physical condition; assist and observe clients self-dispense medication as prescribed; administer scheduled injections.
- Conduct medication checks to assess overall management; act if client poses danger with respect to medication use or abuse; observe, evaluate, and report changes in condition.
- Motivate clients to develop self-reliance in daily living and encourage participation in group/individual therapy and program activities.

Positions at the Psychiatric Technician I level may perform some duties in a learning capacity.
- Psychiatric Technician I: None.
- Psychiatric Technician II: Two (2) years of experience performing medication management and support duties for behavioral health clients.
- Possession of a valid Psychiatric Technician license issued by the California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians, to be maintained throughout employment.
- Possession of a valid California Driver’s License, satisfactory driving record, and a properly registered and insured vehicle, to be maintained throughout employment.
- Psychiatric Technician II:
Possession of a valid Lanterman-Petris-Short (LPS) designation, to be maintained throughout employment.
Preferred candidates will have two years of experience in a behavioral health service setting, completion of clinical licensure hours for the license, prior crisis intervention experience, and good oral and written communication skills. Bilingual in Spanish and proficient in computer skills and electronic health records are preferred.
Employees who are currently in on-call assignments are not eligible for this recruitment.
Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge, abilities, and skills may be considered as qualifying. Candidates may be hired above the minimum salary range depending on qualifications (DOQ).
