Overview

The Senior Electrical Power Engineer candidate should have experience within the utility scale power and renewable energy industry and be capable of leading teams for power generation design projects including supporting in a traditional Owner’s Engineering role.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in power generation and distribution, protection and motor control design, power system studies, construction and equipment specification development, and balance of plant designs such as raceway, lighting, and grounding systems. In addition, the candidate will be expected to mentor young engineers, support in managing client relationships, and lead marketing activities including proposal technical writing, fee builds, and work breakdown structure development in response to requests for proposals.

A significant level of design and engineer of record work experience with power plant systems is required.

Responsibilities
  • Lead teams for power generation design projects, including Owner’s Engineer and/or Advisor roles.
  • Design and specify power generation and distribution, protection and motor control design, power system studies, construction and equipment specifications, and balance-of-plant elements (raceway, lighting, grounding).
  • Mentor engineers, support in managing client relationships, and lead marketing activities including proposal writing, fee development, and work breakdown structure development in response to requests for proposals.
  • Provide design and engineer of record work for power plant systems; collaborate with Project Manager and Project Controller; travel with an expectation of less than 10%.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program with an Electrical Power emphasis.
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Control Systems Engineering with an Electrical Power emphasis.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in electrical power generation design.
  • Design experience with simple cycle and combined cycle power generation.
  • Previous experience with an engineering power consulting or EPC firm.
  • Excellent communication, written and organizational skills.
  • Strong leadership with the ability to work independently, as a lead on a multi-discipline consulting team, or as a lead on a small team.
  • Extensive knowledge of three-phase electrical power, protection and control design and settings development, system grounding, and related activities such as lighting and grounding design, including instrumentation and control and life safety systems.
  • Ability to work with Project Manager and Project Controller on project reviews and to mentor staff as needed.
  • Less than 10% travel for meetings with clients and vendors and site visits.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in electrical power generation design.
  • Professional Engineers (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • Extensive experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office as well as standard Power Market Sector design software (examples include PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Auto Pipe, and Revit).

The compensation range for this position depends on skills, experience, education and geographical location. The targeted salary range is $108,661 - $204,250, with variations by location.
