Custodial Maintenance Position - TJHS

SHIFT TIME: 6:30 am to 3:00 pm

Thomas Jefferson High School, 830 Old Clairton Road, Jefferson Hills, PA 15025

$22.29 per hour for first 90 working days; increase after 90‑day probationary period.

School‑sponsored medical, dental and vision benefits after 90 calendar days (up to family coverage) or buyout.

One week of paid vacation after one year.

POSITION TITLE:

Custodial Maintenance

• High School Diploma or equivalent, preferred
• Two years of custodial and maintenance experience, preferred
• Experience with HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, and electrical, preferred
• Able to understand and perform oral and written instructions
• Able to manage multiple priorities and work independently and/or as part of a team
• Able to use cleaning materials and equipment to perform modern cleaning techniques
• Must possess a valid PA driver’s license with appropriate endorsements/class (as needed) and demonstrate ability to drive district vehicle required.
• Demonstrate knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, and electrical
• Demonstrate knowledge in reading blueprints and drawings.
• Ability to be flexible and perform other tasks as assigned.
• Knowledge of applicable safety rules, practices, and procedures

REPORTS TO:

Facilities Director or Manager/Building Principal

The custodial‑maintenance positions shall maintain buildings, grounds, and equipment in the West Jefferson Hills School District. This position accomplishes this by performing cleaning, janitorial, and other labor duties, which may include minor repair or replacement of various items, operating mechanical services and vehicles, and supply inventory. This work will support the district in providing a safe and clean environment for the students, staff, and community.

All duties will be done in a professional manner, especially around children and the community.

• Receive and process work orders
• Coordinate and work with other custodians in the proper use of materials and equipment to complete work orders
• Respond to safety, sanitary, and fire hazards immediately and take appropriate action
• Inspect, clean, and operate heating, ventilation, electrical and security systems with prescribed instructions
• Perform a variety of carpentry duties, including new construction, remodel, fabrication and repairs/replacements as needed
• Maintain boiler room including draining boilers, clearing debris, lubricating moving parts where applicable, cleaning boilers and flues, and maintaining safety valves to ensure safe and effective operation
• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance of roofs, motors, exit/emergency lighting, generators, batteries and security systems
• Perform interior and exterior painting and related surface preparation and finishing, including pressure washing, chemical paint removal, sandblasting, sanding, brush painting, roller painting, and power spray painting
• Perform minor plumbing repairs/maintenance, including restroom commode and sink fixtures and drinking fountains
• Perform a broad spectrum of hardware repairs and installations
• Operate a variety of hand and power tools
• Operate a variety of vehicles including standard trucks, dump trucks, and box trucks; may involve towing district trailers
• Safely work from ladders, scaffolding, and riggings
• Maintain tools and equipment to ensure good operating conditions
• Respond to emergency calls to troubleshoot and make building repairs
• Perform custodial duties as needed
• Maintain and request supplies and equipment used to complete assigned tasks and report any malfunctions to the facilities manager
• Maintain building security by securing locks on doors and windows and correcting or reporting safety hazards; familiar with operation of security alarm system
• Set up, take down, arrange tables and chairs, and related equipment, and welcome and direct visitors as needed
• Perform miscellaneous work such as washing windows, changing light bulbs and ballasts, servicing, and cleaning equipment
• Perform outdoor duties such as plowing, salting, and/or shoveling and grounds care as needed
