Compass Community School is a small specialist SEND school that provides therapeutic learning for students aged 11‑17. Located in the tranquil rural setting of Little Clacton, Essex, the school offers a therapeutic environment with five classrooms, a dedicated therapy room, cooking facilities, outdoor recreation space and an outdoor play area for PE.
Role OverviewThis is an English specialist teaching position. The role starts September 2026. The teacher is central to identifying each child’s strengths, building nurturing relationships and motivating students to reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities- Plan, deliver and assess an inclusive English curriculum that spans Entry Level, Functional Skills, Key Stage 3 and GCSE.
- Provide specialist support to students with a wide range of Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, SEND, Autism, ADHD and communication difficulties.
- Manage complex and challenging behaviours with consistency, flexibility and a non‑judgemental approach.
- Collaborate with therapy professionals, parents/carers, local authority teams and pupils to secure outstanding outcomes.
- Actively participate in decision‑making that drives the school, advocate for every child and contribute to the development of the academic curriculum.
- Develop engaging extra‑curricular activities that draw on pupils’ interests and passions.
- English specialist background with a proven track record of planning and delivering curriculum across Key Stage 3 and GCSE.
- Experience working with children that have SEND, Autism, ADHD and complex behaviour challenges.
- Strong communication skills, consistency, flexibility and a non‑judgemental attitude.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and therapeutic training.
- Enhanced DBS check or willingness to obtain one.
