Job Title:

Estimator / CNC Programmer

Position Overview

Actalent is seeking to hire a highly organized, detail-oriented Estimator / CNC Programmer to support our precision machining operations. This role is ideal for a candidate with strong manufacturing experience-including CNC machining, programming, and job shop exposure-who can accurately estimate costs and lead times for low‑volume, high‑complexity machined parts. The Estimator works closely with customers, internal manufacturing teams, and vendors to develop detailed, accurate estimates using the company's ERP system.

This position requires strong analytical abilities, solid print‑reading skills, and an understanding of machining processes and production planning.

Must-Have Qualifications

+ Proven experience in estimation and production planning

+ Strong understanding of machining processes, including setup and run times

+ Ability to estimate time requirements for complex machining projects

Experience with production scheduling

Additional

Skills & Qualifications

+ Hands-on experience in CNC machining as an operator and/or programmer

+ Background in a job shop environment producing low-volume, complex parts

+ Previous exposure to estimating or quoting in a manufacturing setting

+ Strong print reading skills with solid knowledge of GD&T

+ Excellent math, analytical, and attention-to-detail skills

+ Clear written and verbal communication abilities

+ Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines

+ Project management experience is a strong asset for planning and coordinating jobs

Key Responsibilities

+ Prepare accurate cost and lead‑time estimates for complex machined components (low to high volume)

+ Build detailed estimates in the ERP system, including labor, materials, tooling, and subcontracted services

+ Review and interpret customer prints, CAD models, specifications, and standards

+ Define complete manufacturing approaches aligned with customer requirements and internal capabilities

+ Identify production risks, constraints, and cost drivers during estimation

+ Adjust estimates as scope, schedule, or customer requirements change

+ Maintain strong customer focus in a custom machining job shop environment

+ Support issue resolution on the shop floor by analyzing root causes and recommending improvements

+ Communicate effectively with internal teams, vendors, and subcontractors

+ Request, review, and manage vendor and subcontractor quotes

+ Prepare and present estimates and cost analyses to management and project stakeholders

+ Track actual job costs to support continuous improvement and enhance estimating accuracy

Work Environment

+ Full-time onsite position in a precision machining shop

+ Standard day-shift schedule

+ Collaborative environment working closely with machinists, programmers, engineers, and leadership

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Clackamas, OR.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
