About the Team
The OpenAPI team builds and maintains a public OpenAPI platform used by third‐party developers to create integrations and applications for end users. Our mission is to deliver a secure, reliable, and developer‐friendly API ecosystem while partnering closely with internal product teams to expose new platform capabilities.
The team consists of a Product Manager, an Engineering Manager, and six Backend Engineers. We are highly collaborative, fully remote‐friendly, and continuously evolving to meet the needs of a growing, large-scale platform.
About the Role
We are looking for a Backend Engineer to help improve and scale the developer experience of a public API platform. You will work on a range of backend initiatives that enable external developers to integrate seamlessly with client's platform.
Projects may include:
Designing and improving sandbox and testing environments
Building and maintaining webhook systems
Implementing API key management and rotation
Supporting API versioning strategies
Enhancing reliability, observability, and performance of public APIs
You will contribute hands‐on code, participate in design and code reviews, and help maintain high standards of engineering quality across the team.
What You'll Do
Design, build, and maintain scalable public REST APIs
Collaborate closely with product managers and partner engineering teams
Write clean, well‐tested, production‐quality code
Participate in technical design discussions and peer code reviews
Monitor API usage and system health using observability tools
Continuously improve developer experience and platform reliability
Requirements
Experience collaborating effectively with distributed or remote teams
Strong software engineering fundamentals with a history of shipping high‐quality production code

Experience with object‐oriented programming languages; the majority of development will be in PHP
Hands‐on experience building and maintaining public REST APIs
Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools (e.g., Grafana, Big Query or similar)
Ability to work autonomously, learn quickly, and take ownership of projects
Growth mindset with enthusiasm for feedback, learning, and continuous improvement
Nice to Have
Experience working on developer platforms or API‐first products
Knowledge of authentication, authorization, and API security best practices
Experience supporting high‐traffic or consumer‐scale APIs
