Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Boys and Girls Track Program as well as serve as the Varsity Head Track Coach.
  • Develop and train student-athletes to participate in competitive track.
  • Develop and execute an effective training program.
  • Monitor, motivate, supervise, and mentor student-athletes on and off the Track.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of student-athletes.
  • Instruct and guide student-athletes in fundamental skills, strategies, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success.
  • Instruct and guide student-athletes to lead them to the formulation and enhancement of moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, and self-confidence.
  • Foster teamwork, sportsmanship, and skills development.
  • Schedule a full season of contests including State-Tournament Track Meets.
  • Work cooperatively and in a timely manner with the School Athletic Office and CPS District Athletics Department in regard to all requests for information that might be periodically required.
  • Check the status of academic eligibility for all prospective student-athletes.
  • Follow District Athletic Department Policy as outlined in the Coaches Handbook and meet all criteria as outlined in the job description.
  • Meet all requirements set forth by the State Board of Education, CPS, the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA), and The Ohio Department of Education (ODE) relative to the mandated Coaches Tool Chest (CTC) and ODE Pupil Activity Permit (PAP).
  • Recognize the need to be aware of and implement all applicable administrative policies set forth by the Board of Education, Superintendents of Schools, School Principals, Conference Leagues, OHSAA.
  • Provide all applicable in-season training rules as well as any that may apply to out-of-season conduct to team members in writing prior to the start of the season. Follow appropriate due process procedures when violations occur.
  • Model the behavior expected of our student-athletes including timeliness to games and practices; be positive and enthusiastic, be respectful, and practice constructive criticism while upholding the disciplines of the program.
  • Be appropriately dressed at all times.
  • Maintain suitable sideline conduct, including the use of appropriate language, at all times.
  • Accept and profit from constructive criticism and suggestions for improving coaching performance.
  • Participate in clinics and other available programs to improve coaching performance.
  • Participate in School Events (i.e., Awards Night Programs, Pep Assemblies, Athletic Boosters Meetings, etc.).
  • Show physical vitality for the sport as well as use of good judgment and decision-making.
  • Be competent in techniques of the sport so that student-athletes respond positively to directions given.
  • Demonstrate the ability to adapt properly to changing game situations.
  • Be well-versed and knowledgeable in matters pertaining to the sport and look at ways to constantly improve knowledge and coaching techniques.
  • Be innovative in using new coaching techniques and ideas in addition to already proven methods of coaching.
  • Ensure that the team is well-prepared for opponents.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of equipment and supplies.
Skills / Essential Functions
  • Fundraising experience.
  • Previous experience coaching track required.
  • Have a passion and dedication to motivate and inspire student-athletes.
  • Ability to serve as a positive role model.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of skills associated with this sport.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
Training / Certifications
  • Ohio Secondary Teaching Certificate preferred.
  • Successful participation in a similar activity in high school and/or college.
  • Provide a satisfactory result on a County Police Records Check, State BCII Check, and FBI Fingerprint Background Check.
  • Possess an Ohio Department of Education (ODE) Pupils Activity Permit (PAP).
  • Provide proof of completion of Coaches Tool Chest (CTC) Training/Certification.
