Senior Diesel Mechanic – Responsibilities- Perform repairs and maintenance of fleet vehicles in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies.
- Perform services and repairs to fleet vehicles per company maintenance schedules and/or from driver vehicle inspection reports (DVIR).
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues and make necessary repairs or replacements.
- Road test vehicles to diagnose problems or test repairs.
- Inspect, lubricate, and service vehicles and equipment.
- Complete adjustments, repairs, and component replacements to vehicles, equipment, and related components.
- Check, fill, and/or change appropriate fluids for all vehicle parts and check/replace filters.
- Inspect and/or repair vehicle support systems, such as electrical, air, and brake systems.
- Identify and perform repairs on various components and operating systems on vehicles, equipment, or related components.
- Perform roadside repairs and adjustments.
- Ensure all safety devices on vehicles are in good working order.
- Assist in training less experienced technicians with repairs, maintenance assignments, and adjustments.
- Perform required administrative duties, such as parts requisitions and warranties, when necessary.
- Perform routine housekeeping duties related to tools, materials, shop, and work areas.
- May assist in other areas of the vehicle maintenance shop as needed.
- Maintain accurate records (time, maintenance orders, and parts usage) on computer/tablet.
- May be required to travel for training purposes or business needs.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Ability to safely drive service vehicles and vehicles in and out of the service area, as well as perform test drives.
- Good written and verbal communication skills to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external customers.
- Must possess the necessary tools to perform assigned tasks.
- Familiarity with using a computer.
- Additional skills may be required to perform additional task(s) specific to work location, department, or line of business.
- Frequently lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling a maximum of 200 lbs. Occasionally up to 75 lbs.
- Continuously working outside in changing temperature, wet/humid conditions.
- Frequently working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter.
- Frequently sitting, standing, and walking in both office and landfill environments.
- Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas.
- Exposure to residential and commercial waste.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays.
- Ability to work flexible hours; expected to work nights and weekends as needed.
- Legally eligible to work in the United States.
- Valid driver’s license (if applicable).
- Must successfully complete pre-employment testing.
- Must be able to read and speak the English language.
