A Day in the Life of a Sr. HVAC Service TechnicianMaintains refrigeration units, heating and cooling controls, pumps and equipment in good operating order for a one million‑square‑foot, Class A office, retail and parking garage development as directed by the Chief Building Engineer. Repairs and recalibrates electrical, heating, and cooling controls. Dismantles and reassembles large and heavy equipment. Works mostly independently with some minimal supervision and is responsible for making an established range of decisions, escalating to manager when necessary and updating manager on a regular basis.
Prepares estimates for equipment replacement and installation cost. Supervises external contractors/vendors and manages HVAC‑related projects.
- Performs installation, maintenance, and repair of various HVAC systems, including air handling units, chillers, VAV boxes and complex electrical/mechanical components.
- Diagnoses, troubleshoots, and repairs complex issues in electronic and mechanical systems relative to HVAC systems and the Energy Management System. Is the primary contact for third party HVAC contractors (e.g. Trane).
- Repairs and recalibrates electrical and heating and cooling controls.
- Overhauls and/or realigns all types of pumps and mechanical seals.
- Dismantles and reassembles large and heavy equipment related to the motors and pumps for HVAC systems.
- Performs building operation duties with the Energy Management System.
- Performs plumbing repairs relative to HVAC equipment.
- Assists in the coordination of all heating and cooling operations.
- Assists in training colleagues relative to HVAC systems and provides guidance on best practices and safety protocols. Participates in continuing education programs including manufacturers seminars.
- High School Diploma, HVAC trade training program, or GED.
- Typically, a minimum of 10 years of HVAC experience with a focus on complex systems.
- Proven thorough knowledge of refrigeration and all HVAC equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to use technical reference materials including systems and building drawings/plans.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct plumbing repairs relative to HVAC equipment.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills to resolve intricate HVAC issues.
- HVAC Certification or equivalent.
- Valid Driver's License with a safe driving record.
