Position: POLICE SUMMER CADET (YOUTH SERVICES)

General Statement of Duties

The City of Cincinnati Police Department Summer Cadet Program gives students ages sixteen through eighteen (16 - 18) the opportunity to work part time during the summer for Cincinnati Police Department. The Cadet Program represents a major initiative to provide students with the chance to learn about police work. Along with this, the Cadet Program gives students the opportunity to stand up against crime in their city, which helps to provide a sense of pride in their neighborhoods.

The program will provide resources and opportunities to qualified persons interested in choosing police work as a career.

NOTE: The goal of the Summer Cadet Program is to provide support for students interested in police work who are not old enough to become Police Recruits, enabling them to continue their education and encouraging them to participate in the Police Recruit examination. The future of our organization is dependent upon our ability to recruit and retain quality employees. When the student reaches twenty‑one (21) years of age, they may participate in the Police Recruit application process.

Duties
  • The Cadets will partake in keeping the City safe, instilling a sense of pride in their community.
  • Cadets will spend time assigned to a Police Officer conducting a variety of duties including:
  • Patrol of city neighborhoods and attending community events within the city.
  • Introduction to defensive tactics and policing techniques.
  • Cadets will wear provided uniforms and shall participate in classes on self‑defense and participate in other Department sponsored training.
  • Cadets shall be evaluated at the beginning and conclusion of the program, using a written evaluation form and shall work thirty (30) hours per week.
Required Education And Experience
  • Must be currently enrolled in an Ohio high school or have graduated from an Ohio high school less than six (6) months ago.
  • Minimum age by the start date of Monday, July 6, 2026, is sixteen (16) years old.
Working and Physical Conditions
  • May be required to stand and walk during a shift up to eight (8) hours with maximum thirty (30) hours per week.
  • Required to participate in introductory self‑defense training and physical fitness training a minimum of five (5) hours per week.
  • Required to perform duties in adverse weather conditions.
  • Required to observe and report unsafe conditions.
  • May be required to carry a police radio and paperwork weighing less than five (5) pounds.
