Monday to Friday, 4:00 AM – 12:30 PM

Performs very basic functions to assist in the preparation of histopathology samples.

$17.20+ per hour. Salary offers are based on relevant skills, training, experience, education, and certifications. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.

• Perform routine activities involved in preparing histopathology slides under general supervision and according to policies and procedures.
• Receive/collect, label and prepare tissue specimens for gross dissection.
• Process paperwork associated with accessioning and reporting.
• Monitor inventory, requisition supplies before depletion; stock and maintain laboratory supplies.
• Clean, sterilize, organize and maintain work area, glassware and laboratory equipment (e.g., refrigerators, freezers, and supply cabinets).
• Perform cover slipping of stained slides both manually and automated.
• Responsible for all assigned clerical duties.
• Comply with all health, quality and safety policies, procedures and practices. Required to use personal protective equipment.

Work Experience:

One year of previous histopathology or other laboratory experience and/or training.

• Lifting and carrying objects: 1–10 lbs frequently; 11–25 lbs occasionally; 36–50 lbs seldom; >50 lbs not to be lifted or carried without assistance.
• Ability to stand and work at the bench for long periods.
• Frequent walking and/or standing.
• May be required to use a wide variety of laboratory instruments and apparatuses demanding significant manual dexterity.

• Basic knowledge of operating non‑complex instrumentation.

• Demonstrate ability to follow steps without confusion or errors on an ongoing basis and retain the information once learned.
• Detail‑oriented, work independently, establish priorities and handle several tasks simultaneously for maximum department efficiency.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills with supervisors, co‑workers and clients.
• Handle client information in a confidential manner.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems.
• Typing speed of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.

• High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)
• Some College Science courses preferred (Preferred)
